StudentsLive’s programs are now attracting adult groups and tour internationally in collaboration with presenters all across the world.

StudentsLive is the Premiere Broadway Arts, Education and Events Company whose goal is: "To build and increase awareness of all forms of theatre arts and inspire lives through the power of theatre." We began partnering with producers to develop future audiences of critical thinkers who would return time and again to seek out quality theatre, and instill appreciation and love for the arts at an early age. Since 2000, StudentsLive’s curriculum-based programs have attracted over 100,000 new audiences from the widest range of cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Since 2000, StudentsLive’s Award-Winning live interactive education programming have attracted over 100,000 participants from as far away as South Korea, Guam, The UK, Italy, Brazil, China and from all across the United States. The League of American Theatres and Producers and Theatre Development Fund have awarded StudentsLive grants six years in a row for Outstanding Education Programs on Broadway.

"Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings." A live radio play version of It's a Wonderful Life will bow on Broadway this holiday season at the Broadhurst Theatre, with previews beginning November 4 ahead of a November 18 opening. The limited run will continue through January 3, 2027.

The cast will feature Andrew Rannells as George Bailey, Megan Hilty as Mary Bailey, and Tituss Burgess as Clarence and others, along with offstage husband-and-wife Harry Hamlin as Mr. Potter and others and Lisa Rinna as Violet and others. Casting is by Taylor Williams.

Adapted from the 1946 film (itself written by Broadway writers Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, and Frank Capra) by Joe Landry, It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play will transport audiences to a 1940s radio studio as actors gather to perform the timeless holiday favorite (based on Philip Van Doren Stern's 1943 short story "The Greatest Gift"), complete with live foley effects and holiday carols during commercial breaks. This adaptation of the film premiered in 1996 at Connecticut's Stamford Center for the Arts, but the upcoming run will be its first Broadway bow.

”This story has touched the hearts of millions for generations, and I'm thrilled to now be bringing it to the Broadway stage this holiday season with this sensational cast of musical theatre, television, and comedy greats," says director Jerry Zaks in a statement. "This production's unique format as a radio play calls back to the charm of a bygone era, while also folding in exciting surprises to thrill modern audiences, making for a memorable and joyful holiday experience for all!"

October 1, 2026, marked Dame Julie Andrews' 91st birthday. Sure, we just marked her milestone 90th birthday last year, but we wanted to say happy birthday again this year.

Playbill recently unearthed an extensive physical photo archive in the Playbill offices, an archive that includes these rarely scene photos from Victor / Victoria, the 1995 musical that Andrews starred in (which marks her most recent Broadway credit). Now that's it's officially Fall, our staff is excited to start our Broadway Workshop season in just 3 weeks. We start with & Juliet October 17th and then have over 20 Workshops booked through Spring 2027. Great days are officially ahead in 2027! The live stage film of Oh, Mary! will debut on HBO and stream on HBO Max next year. The play was filmed in London's West End July 28, with writer and original Broadway star Cole Escola in the title role. Sam Pinkleton re-created his Tony-winning direction for the screen version as well. A premiere date is to be announced.

The filming cast also includes Broadway original cast members Bianca Leigh as Mary's Chaperone and Tony Macht as Mary's Husband's Assistant, along with Michael Urie as Mary's Teacher and Giles Terera as Mary's Husband (who originated that role in the West End). The play continues on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre and in the West End at the Trafalger Theatre.

The long-running musical comedy & Juliet will play its final performance at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre January 3, 2027. Upon closing, the jukebox musical will have played 1,723 regular performances and 20 previews. It will close as one of the 50 longest-running Broadway musicals of all time.

“From the very beginning, & Juliet has been winning over audiences and critics alike, shattering every stereotype about jukebox musicals to deliver a smart, funny, heartfelt story—all while sparking true joy in everyone who sees it,” producers Theresa Steele Page and Eva Price said in a joint statement. “We’re incredibly proud of the run we’ve had on Broadway, and the story of inclusion, acceptance and second chances we’ve been able to share with more than 1.5 million people in our four years on Broadway.”

The international hit, which opened at the Sondheim November 17, 2022, following a run in the West End, was the first new musical of the 2022–2023 Broadway season to announce its recoupment. It has grossed more than $175 million on Broadway. The musical, which flips the script on the classic Shakespearean tragedy Romeo and Juliet, celebrated its 1,500th performance at the Sondheim June 23.

Welcome Back to Broadway - Emmy-winning talk show host, comic, and actor Sherri Shepherd—best known for co-hosting The View and subsequently hosting her own syndicated talk show Sherri—will join the Broadway company of Aladdin next month.

Shepherd will step into the role of the Genie for a limited run, October 16, 2026–January 3, 2027. Current Genie Caleb A. Barnett will remain in the company as the Genie standby during Shepherd’s run. Shepherd will also be the first woman to play the Genie in the Disney hit, which has historically cast men in the role of Aladdin's wise-cracking mentor. James Monroe Iglehart created the role on Broadway, winning a Tony for his performance.

“Joining Aladdin on Broadway is an absolute dream come true—and an incredible honor,” said Shepherd in a statement. “The Genie is such an iconic character, and I’m beyond excited to bring my own energy, humor, heart, and a little bit of magic to this role. I hope audiences see themselves in this Genie and leave the theatre feeling so much joy and inspired to believe in the impossible. To step on that stage as the first woman to ever play the Genie is something I don’t take lightly. I'm ready to rub the lamp, unleash some magic, and have the time of my life on Broadway.”

Irene Sankoff and David Hein have always considered their musical Come From Away as a show, not about 9/11, but about what happened on 9/12 and after. Notes Hein, "In times of tragedy, we often focus on the horrible things that happen. And in the days after, it's the wave of support and the wave of people who are doing good that doesn't get highlighted enough."

Hein should know, he and Sankoff, his wife, got a first-hand look when they lived in New York City in 2001, during 9/11.

Acts of immense selflessness form the remarkable story on which Come From Away is based. After the September 11, 2001, terrorists attacks at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, American airspace was closed and commercial airliners were diverted. Most prominently, 38 planes carrying over 7,000 passengers made an emergency landing in the small town of Gander in Newfoundland, Canada. Surprised but indomitable, the Canadians in that town immediately set to house, feed, and welcome these "come from away"-ers. Lifelong friendships, including some love affairs, were born.

In 2010, Canadian producer Michael Rubinoff commissioned fellow Canadians Sankoff and Hein to write a musical based on that true story. Skeptical—with Sankoff admitting, "I thought that nobody but Canadian high schools would ever do it"—the duo spent a month in Gander interviewing local residents. From their interviews came the musical Come From Away, which ran on Broadway from 2017 to 2022 and was nominated for seven Tony Awards.

Then another astounding thing happened: The musical took on a life of its own. To date, Sankoff and Hein estimate there have been over 600 productions of Come From Away in America alone, and countless around the world. The show's been filmed and can be streamed on Apple TV+.

And on the 25th anniversary of September 11, there will be two productions of Come From Away running at the same time in both Gander and New York City.

On Tuesday August 25th, culture was upended by the passing of the beloved singer-songwriter, philanthropist, actress, performer, and businesswoman Dolly Parton. News of her passing was confirmed by her family, with a video released by her head of security (and nephew) Bryan Seaver, on her official social media channels. She was 80 years old.

In the wake of the tragic news, questions swirled around the timeline of the Dolly Parton bio-musical Dolly: A True Original Musical, on which Ms. Parton was actively working at the time of her death.

Producers of the piece have confirmed that the musical will still come to Broadway this December, telling Playbill in a statement: "As was Dolly’s wish, the Broadway production of DOLLY: A True Original Musical will begin previews December 7 at the St. James Theatre in New York City with opening set for January 19, 2027, what would have been her 81st birthday."

Dolly features a number of new songs written by Ms. Parton before her passing. Her collaborator on the piece, director Bartlett Sher, will bring the piece across the finish line in her honor.
