On September 29, 2026, the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, Archangels, Mount St. Michael Academy in the Bronx celebrated the beginning of The Mount’s 100th anniversary year with a Mass celebrated by His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop Emeritus of New York. The Mass officially opened the school year and marked the start of this historic centennial celebration.

Entrusted to the Marist Brothers, The Mount continues its mission of forming young men in the Gospel, guided by the charism of St. Marcellin Champagnat: simplicity, family spirit, love of work, and devotion to Mary.

As The Mount begins its centennial year, it celebrates a century of faith, academic growth, and the formation of young men prepared to live out the Gospel and serve others.

Students in Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of New York demonstrated strong achievement on the 2026 New York State Education Department assessments for Grades 3–8, with 65.3 percent achieving proficiency in English Language Arts (ELA) and 67.4 percent achieving proficiency in Mathematics.

“Certainly, we celebrate these results and the hard work of our students, teachers and families,” said Sr. Mary Grace Walsh, ASCJ, Ph.D., Superintendent of Schools and Secretary for Education and Faith Formation for the Archdiocese of New York. “But our goal is not simply to move students toward a particular score or standard. Our goal is to help each student grow into the person God created them to be.”

Remembering September 11.
Twenty-five years later, we remember in prayer those who lost their lives on that tragic day, their families and loved ones, and all who continue to carry its impact. We pray for our families and communities, and we remember with gratitude the courage, faith, and resilience of our Catholic school communities who walked through those difficult days together.
May God continue to comfort those who grieve, strengthen our families and communities, and hold all those we have lost in His loving care.

Renewal in action! And what a joyful first day at the John Cardinal O'Connor School (JCOS) in Irvington! 📚🙏💙
Sr. Mary Grace Walsh, ASCJ, Ph.D., Superintendent of Schools, visited the school’s enhanced classrooms, greeted students, and shared in the excitement of a new school year.
This academic year, JCOS is expanding specialized services through a new two-pathway model: the Literacy & Language Academy and Social Communication Center. The pathways provide specialized support while remaining part of one unified school community.

The first day of school was already in full swing at St. Anthony-St. Paul School in Nanuet! 📚🙏
After morning prayer, Sr. Mary Grace Walsh, ASCJ, Ph.D., Superintendent of Schools, toured the school, visited classrooms and spent time with students. She offered prayers with them and saw students already engaged in their learning, participating in class and beginning the year with their teachers and classmates.
It was a wonderful glimpse of what is happening across our Catholic schools as students and educators begin another year of learning, faith and community together.

The excitement of a new school year was in the air at St. Anthony-St. Paul School in Nanuet!

Sr. Mary Grace Walsh, ASCJ, Ph.D., Superintendent of Schools, joined students for morning prayer as the entire school community came together under one roof for the very first time.

What a joyful beginning to this new chapter! May God bless our students, families, and educators throughout the year ahead. 💙
