"The biggest difference between the ten-year-old me and the me right now is that my younger self didn’t have space for speaking up and being bold, or even being seen. . . . I’d just slink away into my spaces of comfort, pull out a pencil to draw or write a poem about a girl, or find a big bowl of warm lasagna to sink my face into.
I’ve learned to stop apologizing for this part of myself. New places are always opening my eyes and helping me think outside the box, but I always bring pieces of home with me as I move, and it helps me create a temporary safe space wherever I land."
