We are happy to share that Stuart Klinger has joined the Thurnauer faculty. Stuart is teaching Music Appreciation to students from the IDEA School at the JCC. Read more about Stuart below.

Stuart Klinger studied Classical Guitar and Lute at Mannes College of Music with Albert Valdes Blaine, Frederic Hand, Patrick O’Brien, and Paul Echols where he was a member of The Mannes Camerata and The Mannes Jazz Ensemble. He received his BA from Sarah Lawrence College where he studied with Albert Valdes Blaine and Lanoe Davenport.

From many years of teaching experience, Stuart has developed a focused approach to teaching music that utilizes “artistic vision” and creativity as the spark that inspires young people to become self-motivated. Stuart has also completed teacher training for Unit One in the Suzuki Guitar program.

In 2012 Stuart created a songwriting and recording program called Bandwriting Collective. A staff of six professional songwriters and musicians taught students to write and record music with a band. The students were taken into professional recording studios with a Grammy Award winning producer and taught how to make records from song ideas. The students performed at major venues in New York City and have had the tracks played on WFMU.
Stuart is an ASCAP writer with song placements in major movies and television shows.

He is currently producing a four-volume set of albums for Brian MacWilliams entitled Songs for Ghosts. It is the second album project for this artist. The first album, Being Here, is available on Vinyl, Apple Music and Spotify.

In 1990, he was a member of the alternative band, The Rake’s Progress, which recorded for Almo/Geffen Records. The Rake’s Progress was featured on Late Night with Conan O’Brian, MTV’s 120 Minutes, and Beavis and Butthead. The band was also featured on the cover of Billboard magazine.

At the present time, Stuart performs as a solo artist and plays with his own Jazz Trio. He appears in many shows in the New York area with acts such as F*Bomb (A tribute to the Rolling Stones), The Fred Norris Band, The Music of Traffic, 30 Years of Shadows and Light (A tribute to Joni Mitchell), Ones and Zeros (A tribute to Radiohead) and many others.

He is very excited to join this great faculty.
