Dear Friends,

Bob Mover is one of the most vital and underrecognized voices in modern Jazz. While he may not have achieved the mainstream recognition of some of his contemporaries, his lifelong dedication to refining his unique sound and deep commitment to the essence of Jazz have earned him the admiration of the genres greatest musicians.

The legendary Hank Jones described Bob as “One of the greatest and most underexposed musicians in the history of Jazz,” while Chet Baker remarked, “Bob is very underrated. People are always amazed when they hear him play.” Bob’s rightful place in the Jazz pantheon is long overdue. We believe this project will be an important step in bringing his artistry to a wider audience and solidifying his legacy.

Since 2014, Bob has been battling Stage IV COPD (Emphysema). In 2021, he underwent a tracheostomy and now uses a Passy-Muir valve, which allows him not only to speak but, remarkably, to continue playing the saxophone. Despite being classified as high-risk and requiring full-time oxygen support, Bob remains committed to his craft. While health challenges have limited his ability to perform live & travel, he continues to teach, conduct master classes via Zoom for students worldwide, and produce his weekly podcast, On the Real Side, which has garnered nearly 2,000 followers and enthusiastic engagement.

Bob’s dedication to Jazz extends beyond performance. He recently co-authored The Bob Mover Jazz Lexicon with Isaac Raz, published by Sher Music Co., and is currently working on his next book, Serious Fun: Developing a True Jazz Conception.

Isaac Raz is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, where he studied jazz composition and music synthesis under the legendary Herb Pomeroy, earning the Duke Ellington Award. He also holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Lehman College, City University of New York. With over a decade of mentorship from Barry Harris and a close collaboration with Bob Mover, Isaac co-authored The Bob Mover Jazz Lexicon, recently released by Sher Music. He is also the orchestrator and arranger for Bob Mover’s forthcoming orchestral album.

Isaac’s work spans multiple high-profile projects, including arranging and producing tracks for Teo Macero’s Impressions of Miles Davis and composing the score for the Emmy-winning television documentary Pioneer Women. His string orchestration for Vanessa Williams’s La Costa reached #25 on Billboard’s Smooth Jazz Airplay chart. Most recently, his orchestration project Retreat to Beauty (Antoine Drye, Cellar Music) was named one of DownBeat Magazine’s “Best Albums of 2024.”

This recording project has already received the generous participation of some of New York’s top Jazz musicians, including NEA Jazz Masters Kenny Barron, Billy Hart and Randy Brecker, Rufus Reid, Antoine Drye, Sacha Perry, Roger Rosenberg, Steve Kenyon, Lawrence Feldman, John Clark, and Michael Rorby. Their participation has helped us bring the project to its current stage, and we are now seeking funding to complete it. An itemized budget of the remaining costs is available upon request.

We are reaching out to you for your support in making this important work a reality. Jazz is a music of human connection, spiritual elevation, and joy. This recording will not only celebrate Bob Mover’s extraordinary career but will also share his profound musical voice with the world.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

We deeply appreciate your support.

Sincerely,

Bob Mover
