The Jewish people of Salonica was a thriving community before World War 2. The N**i invasion of Greece in July, 1942 aimed to destroy our community. Sadly they were almost successful as once the city's Jews were targeted by the N**is, it would take a few short weeks before the majority were deported to Auschwitz Birkenau, only 4% returned.
After the Shoah the remnants started to slowly rebuild. Dr. Albert Menasche would write the first account of the tragedy. When MIchel Assael read this account he was inspired to write a symphonic poem in honor of all that was lost. The score of 100 pages for 34 instruments was recently recovered by his daughter Deborah Assael.after much persistence by Dr. Joe Halio.
The event honoring Martin Elias, a steadfast supporter of HMTC, will soulfully be presented by the New Manhattan Sinfonietta
We hope you can join us.

Yom Hashoah is the time of year we remember the horrors of the Holocaust, the bravery of the survivors and the victims and the recent passing of so many survivors during the pandemic.
Personally the loss of Irving Roth has left a whole in my heart that I hope to fill by fulfilling my promise to him. To continue to share his life and that of his family with audiences. To work hard to make never again mean something. In this world where hate comes easier than love. Where understanding the differences between people can help us overcome the fear of the other as under the skin we are all the same. We have the same hopes and wants for our families and friends. Let us all live up to Irvingβs example and embrace all with love and generosity of spirit.
