This winter, 8th and 10th graders took their Spanish beyond the classroom with incredible language immersions with host families! 🌍✨

📍 Oaxaca, Mexico – 8th graders spent a week diving into Spanish through small-group lessons, conversation games, and cultural outings. They put their skills to the test in real-life situations and got creative crafting alebrijes—Mexico’s famous hand-painted wooden animals! 🇲🇽🎨

📍 Toledo, Spain – 10th graders explored medieval history while refining their Spanish at Aula Toledo. Guided tours brought to life the city’s unique blend of Christian, Muslim, and Jewish heritage, including the stunning Mezquita del Cristo de la Luz. They also embraced Spanish traditions with flamenco lessons and a paella feast! 🇪🇸💃🏻

A heartfelt gracias to our incredible host families for welcoming our students into their homes and culture. ❤️

Full language immersion is the Lycée way…and not just in New York City.

Learning through service 🤝 Apprendre en rendant service

🇻🇳This month, eighteen Seconde/Y10 students traveled to Vietnam as part of the school’s service learning program. They spent several days with children at the Maison des Affections, an orphanage we have been partnering with since 2014. Students taught the children English through games and creative activities they had planned.

Later in the trip, they explored the rich history of Vietnam. Students were marked by their tour of the Vinh Moc Tunnels, situated near the demilitarized zone of the 17th parallel, which separated North and South Vietnam during the war from 1954 to 1976. They had the opportunity to interview two witnesses who shared their experiences of life in this underground village, constructed to protect the community from bombardments.

How can we help children at all grade levels to love and succeed in math? 🎯

This year, we’ve integrated the Singapore math method into the French math curriculum in the Lycée’s Primary School. By combining these two renowned approaches, our teachers equip students with essential tools for success in math: self-confidence, creativity, abstract thinking and, of course, rigor.

“[The Lycée] aims to develop a “math mindset” in students”, writes Vannina Boussouf, our Assistant Head of School and Director of Primary. “This means cultivating intellectual agility, a positive, curious and creative attitude towards mathematics, which will accompany them throughout their school life and beyond.”

🔗 Learn more about the approach in her recent article: https://shorturl.at/MoIsA.

“How does it work? What is this?” 🤔 These essential questions guide every project in the afterschool-program class “Sciences-Vidéo,” where students use the art of video storytelling to shed light on scientific topics. This time around, they're tackling climate change, with care, research, and a little humor… 🌱 Take a look!

🌱 Regardez !

Words of wisdom from an actor (and writer) who means so much to us!

Behind the scenes at Première Scène means master classes, technical prep, backstage jitters, a perfectly normal feeling that brings a surge of energy as the lights dim, and camaraderie.

On Friday, actor Jean Reno joined 11th and 12th graders from the Lycée, International School of Boston, and Collège Marie de France in Montréal for a master class that wove stories of his early days on film (with Yves Montand & Romy Schneider) and the wisdom of an artist who looks decidedly forward with each new role. His were lessons for young actors exploring careers in film and theater, and for life for all of us. Theater is life as we know...

Here’s one of many gems!

Élève: Comment vous préparez-vous pour un rôle ?
Jean Reno: Je me fais confiance. 🌞

We are immensely grateful to Mr. Reno and all those who had a hand in the performances— from our young actors to their teachers, to our stage manager Sam to all student volunteers and to Florence and Valentine in the Cultural Center, to Arié and Edwig in A/V, and to Marie Odile Couture, Nathalie Roussel and Frédéric Yvelin.

Que vive le théâtre ! 🎭

“Landscapes of Nostalgia” 🎨

Inspired by J.M.W. Turner and Claude Monet, 4eme/Y8 students have created pastel landscapes reflecting places meaningful to them. Each piece is paired with a recorded reflection, offering a glimpse into their memories and creative process. Headphones recommended for the full experience!

📍 Gallery 6 (outside the Secondary art room)
Don’t miss this special opportunity to celebrate the creativity and talent of our students.

Join 4ème/Y8 students and Secondary art teachers Julien Guibreteau and John Tasevoli this Thursday from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, for the opening of Landscapes of Nostalgia, a captivating exhibit exploring Abstraction and Impressionism.

Yesterday, our Primary students celebrated our Day of Understanding, an annual event focused on embracing our Lycée's core values: Solidarité-Community, Ténacité-Commitment, Esprit de découverte-Open Minds, and Épanouissement-Joy.

In preparation, teachers worked with students for many weeks in the classroom, exploring such topics: inter-cultural understanding, religious beliefs, family backgrounds and socio-economic differences.

Families joined students for the morning, with student presentations, art projects and music, each moment telling a story of what makes us unique and what we share. Performances in French and in English, and Spanish, including "Le Soleil Donne" by Laurent Voulzy, a symbol of unity and belonging. It was a day filled with meaningful connections, smiles, and an overwhelming sense of joy, as we learned from and celebrated one another’s diversity.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the Day of Understanding such a memorable celebration of our diverse community!
