Malaika Join us in empowering girls & creating the next generation of changemakers Based in New York, Malaika operates in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Founded in 2007 by international model Noella Coursaris Musunka, Malaika is a 501(c)(3) non-profit with a mission to empower girls and their communities through education and health. Malaika has built a free school for 430 girls, built or refurbished 28 wells, partnered with FIFA to build a community center impacting 5000 individuals annually and partnered with Caterpillar Foundation to create a t

echnical program educating future electricians and mechanics, and established a sustainable agriculture program in the village of Kalebuka.

Today we say goodbye to a man who shaped this community in more ways than we can count.

Papa Ildephonse taught at our community center for over fourteen years since 2012, but he was never only a teacher.

He was a father figure to children who needed one, a mentor to young people finding their voice, and a colleague we were lucky to learn from every day.

That kind of presence does not disappear. It lives on in everyone he guided, encouraged and believed in.

The work he started here does not end today. We will honor him every day by continuing the mission he gave so much of himself to.

Rest in peace, Papa Ildephonse. Thank you for everything.

Françoise arrived at Malaika as a little girl full of dreams and curiosity. Today she's in her 3rd year of university, studying Architecture.

From dreaming up her future to designing it. We couldn't be prouder!

Malaika continue d'accompagner nos étudiantes bien après le diplôme, tout au long de leur parcours dans l'enseignement supérieur.

Chaque mois, elles reviennent chez elles, à Malaika, pour un Malaika accompagne ses élèves bien au-delà de la remise des diplômes. Chaque mois, nos anciennes reviennent chercher du soutien et du mentorat.

Françoise est arrivée à Malaika petite fille, pleine de rêves et de curiosité. Aujourd'hui, elle est en 3ème année d'université, en Architecture.

D'abord rêver son avenir, puis le dessiner. Nous sommes tellement fières d'elle !

In Malaika's sewing classes, the mamas start right at the beginning 🧵

Threading a needle. Cutting a pattern. Sewing a line that's almost straight.

Then something clicks. Wobbly stitches turn steady, steady stitches turn into a finished garment, and finally, she's wearing something she made herself.

Skills built with your own hands hit different. 💛

FR: Dans les cours de couture de Malaika, les mamas partent de zéro, elles apprennent à enfiler une aiguille, couper un patron, coudre une ligne droite.

Petit à petit, séance après séance, les points irréguliers deviennent assurés, et les points assurés deviennent des vêtements dont elle est fière.

Il y a quelque chose de discrètement puissant à voir quelqu'un développer un savoir-faire de ses propres mains, la patience à la rencontre de la pratique, couture après couture.

Congo Equipment's executive team showed up for Malaika again this month 💙

This time, the DRC Managing Director and his HR team came to donate 20 computers, strengthening our IT program. After seeing our work firsthand on a previous visit, they chose to invest in expanding digital skills access for our students.

MALAIKA'S FIRST UNIVERSITY GRADUATES 👩🏾‍🎓⭐️

Audience, Déborah, Jolie and Amida grew up in Malaika classrooms, and today they crossed a university stage with their Bachelor's degrees in hand 🥹

And behind all of it, a global community that believed in them before they could believe in themselves. You! 💛

This is the furthest they have ever come, and for us as an organisation, it is a new milestone entirely.

Congratulations to Audience, Déborah, Jolie and Amida for reaching the stars and showing a whole generation to follow what's possible. We are so, so proud. 👏
