The Mexican Cultural Institute of New York

The Mexican Cultural Institute of New York had the honor of attending Nuestro New York: La arquitectura de Frida Escobedo at The Met. We were inspired by the vision and journey of architect Frida Escobedo, founder of Frida Escobedo Studio, in conversation with architect, curator, and educator Laura González Fierro.
As the designer of the Tang Wing, Escobedo becomes the first woman to design a wing at The Met—an extraordinary milestone. Her work thoughtfully connects the Museum’s global collection while continuing its legacy of bold, visionary architecture. A heartfelt thank you to Frida Escobedo for sharing her vision, talent, and inspiring journey with us.
Our Executive Director, Liliana Saldaña Lobera, attended alongside Consul of Protection Diego Sandoval, member of the Institute’s board.
We extend our deepest gratitude and admiration to The Met team, including Marty Preciado, Victoria Campa, and many others. We value this strong partnership and look forward to future collaborations under the Institute’s new leadership.

En celebración del 40 aniversario de Songs from Liquid Days, el Lincoln Center presenta la primera reposición del álbum en cuatro décadas, una obra icónica que marcó un antes y un después en la música contemporánea. Lanzado originalmente en 1986, este álbum —el más exitoso comercialmente de Philip Glass— reúne letras de leyendas como Laurie Anderson, David Byrne, Paul Simon y Suzanne Vega, fusionando el minimalismo con la sensibilidad pop.

🎼 Acompañado por The Philip Glass Ensemble, fundado por el propio Glass en 1968, este concierto histórico cobra nueva vida con la participación de artistas latinos invitados.

Mariana Lagunas: In Motion - En Movimiento

The Consulate of Mexico within the Mexican Cultural Institute of New York, proudly presents Mariana Lagunas: In Motion, marking the artist’s New York City debut. Through her figurative and realist paintings, Lagunas explores optimism as a complex and contradictory force, one that moves between comfort and pressure, gratitude and frustration. Her works capture human figures suspended between motion and contemplation, reflecting the universal hope that everything will be fine, even in moments of uncertainty.

Short, affirmative phrases such as Cosas Bonitas (“Pretty Things”) and Todo Bien (“All Good”) resonate throughout her work, referencing the language of digital communication and embodying memories, personal narratives, and the currents that drive us forward.

In her site-specific installation, Lagunas transforms materials like cardboard, stitching, and urgent text into layered metaphors. Cardboard evokes fragility and impermanence; stitching suggests repair and care; urgent text signals immediacy and collective pressure. Together, these elements reveal the labour, attention and resilience that sustain us amid instability.

With In Motion, Lagunas invites viewers to pause, appreciate beauty, and reflect on life’s transitory nature—reminding us that optimism, though fragile, can be an act of resistance.
