Corals are available in various colors with different hues and shades, including white, red, pink, orange, black, golden, and blue. Precious corals having pink to red hues are valued over other corals due to rarity, color, and durability. Because of their inherently porous nature, and their chemical composition, corals can be easily damaged by heat and extreme temperature changes, or chemicals. Wear your coral jewelry with care, as these gems are prone to scratching, and avoid excessive contact with fluids.

GSI's Lost & Stolen Jewelry Registry aided in recovering stolen natural and lab-grown diamond jewelry through alert notifications and collaboration with authorities. GSI's registry alerted owners and law enforcement after a third party accessed the report of a stolen $22,000 diamond engagement ring.

The registry identified two missing lab-grown diamond jewelry pieces when an online auction requested report information, leading to their recovery. GSI's Lost & Stolen Jewelry Registry facilitates communication between owners, retailers, and law enforcement to recover stolen jewelry.

Meanwhile, in a second case, a prominent online auction marketplace contacted GSI requesting report information on two lab-grown diamond-jewelry pieces. The registry identified both items as reported missing from one of the stores of a major US jewelry retail chain. GSI contacted the company, which then spoke to law enforcement with the details.

“We are proud and happy to help reunite the jewelry with its lawful owners,” said GSI President & Co-Founder Debbie Azar.

For years, delicate stacking rings and barely-there bands dominated jewelry collections. Today, however, the pendulum is swinging in the opposite direction. Chunky rings—bold, sculptural, and unapologetically statement-making—have emerged as one of the most influential jewelry trends of the moment.

Founded in 1735, Garrard holds the distinction of being the first official Crown Jeweller of the United Kingdom. The brand has supplied jewels for Queen Victoria and has been responsible for the upkeep of the British Crown Jewels since 1843. Garrard has created iconic jewelry worn by the British royal family to this day. Its collections offer a range of exquisite jewelry, including rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, tiaras, and hair jewels.

Three different coloured gemstones are combined to create a breathtaking ombré effect in Garrard's Wings Embrace Peacock ring. Mimicking the iridescent plumage of one of the most spectacular birds in the animal kingdom, calibré cut blue sapphires, aquamarines and tsavorites swoop across the finger, overlaid with an openwork diamond wing with spaces between the feathers, giving a glimpse of the graduated gemstones beneath.

Lapis Lazuli is a striking opaque gemstone prized for its rich royal-blue color, often accented by shimmering flecks of golden pyrite and subtle white calcite veining. Revered for over 6,000 years, it was treasured by ancient civilizations including the Egyptians, who used it in jewelry, amulets, and ceremonial objects. Primarily sourced from Afghanistan, lapis lazuli remains a favorite among designers for its bold color, timeless appeal, and connection to history, artistry, and wisdom. It is typically cut into cabochons, beads, and decorative carvings.

Gemological Science International (GSI), in collaboration with Bharat Ratnam Mega CFC, conducted a new batch of its “Gem Identification Masterclass” focused on gemstone education for the Indian jewelry industry. Bharat Ratnam Mega CFC is an initiative of GJEPC supported by India’s commerce ministry.

The program addressed growing demand for technical understanding in the colored gemstone segment as consumer preferences increasingly shift toward individuality, rarity, and transparency. The changing market environment is influencing gemstone sourcing, quality evaluation, and customer communication strategies across the trade.

The masterclass was designed for industry professionals and focused on practical gemological training. Topics included gemstone identification, separation of natural gemstones from simulants and synthetics, treatment detection, geographic origin analysis, and value-related factors. Participants also received hands-on exposure to professional gemological instruments and gemstone analysis techniques under the guidance of GSI instructors.

According to the organizers, the program reflected increasing interest among industry participants in authenticity, traceability, and scientific evaluation of gemstones, which are becoming more important in building consumer trust and long-term brand credibility.

Today’s collectors are not satisfied with pieces that are merely beautiful—they seek jewelry that carries emotional weight, personal narrative, and the ability to act as modern-day relics. This instinct is evident in the resurgence of lockets, initial pendants, and charm necklaces, where the jewel becomes less about adornment and more about identity, memory, and intimacy.
