Platypus will be part of a debate and discussion with other student clubs from across the political spectrum about the state of free speech on campus. We will represent the approach taken by the historical Marxist Left to this issue! Come discuss the interest of the left in free speech, campus politics, and the recent suppression of student speech at Columbia.

In light of the recent protests organized against mass deportations, we ask the panelists to consider the politics of the Left on this topic: How has the Left approached the question of immigration historically? What opportunities for a renewed emancipatory politics exist in the immigrants’ rights movement today? What role can left-wing civil and political organizations play in immigration politics? How and why does the state manage immigration in capitalism? Is Marxism relevant to the politics of immigration today?
