❗️Take precautions for kids. Extra protection should be taken for children and teens, who are more susceptible to smoke.

❗️Their lungs are still developing, and they breathe in more air (and consequently more pollution) for their size than adults.
Stay indoors if you can, with the windows and doors closed.

❗️Protect the air in your home. Keep doors, windows, and fireplace dampers shut and preferably with clean air circulating through air conditioners on the recirculation setting.

❗️If you have air conditioning, run it continuously, not on the auto cycle. It’s also helpful to close the fresh air intake so that smoke doesn’t get inside the house. If your system allows it, install a high-efficiency air filter classified as MERV 13 or higher.

❗️Portable air cleaners can also reduce indoor particulate matter in smaller spaces.

❗️Avoid frying food, which can increase indoor smoke.

❗️Avoid strenuous outdoor activities like exercising or mowing the lawn.

❗️Keep an eye on symptoms. Higher levels of smoke in some areas can make breathing more difficult. If you are experiencing symptoms, contact your healthcare provider.
