Continuing our five faces of Cathedral, we bring you our third Cathedralite: Carla R. ‘26! Carla was chosen for our core value of service and her reflection is shared here below.
“My name is Carla R. ’26 and I am the president of the Medical Advocacy Club, a member of both the Enliven Club and the Student Ambassador Club. Having grown up in the Bronx, I have always been taught the importance of both my faith and my family. Being part of the sisterhood at Cathedral has strengthened my faith and inspired me to live each day with kindness. Our school encourages students to put their values into action by serving the community and supporting one another. For example, during our open houses as an ambassador, I guided families through the school and answered their questions when they felt uncertain. Being patient and kind goes a long way in helping students feel more excited about joining a new community and helping parents feel at ease sending their daughters here.
This past summer, I was awarded a scholarship to travel on a mission trip to Costa Rica. I had the amazing opportunity to serve the local community and help those in need. That experience showed me how even small acts of service can make a big difference. The value of service is central to my experience at Cathedral and shows up in every interaction I have, whether I am helping classmates, guiding families, or volunteering. I have learned that I can always find a way to help or improve a situation, and I plan to carry this lesson forward into the future. I will continue to live out Cathedral’s value of service by supporting others and making a positive impact in every community I join or encounter.”
Thank you Carla for your service to your Cathedral community and may we all find ways to serve our own communities.

We are delighted to introduce our second Cathedralite: Gia C. ‘26! Gia kindly shares her reflection on the value of respect, one of our five core values.
“My name is Gia C. ‘26 and I am the captain of the Cheer Team and member of the Enliven Club, Dance Team, and Student Council. Leading Cheer has taught me the importance of communication, dedication, teamwork, and respect. Running a team of girls made up of my peers taught me firsthand that respect is especially important when things get hard. I have learned that fostering trust is a key part of respect and that when teammates feel respected, they feel safe to share ideas, ask for help, and take risks. Being captain of a team has shown me the importance of modeling behavior for others, because the way I treat my teammates sets the tone for the entire team. Beyond cheer, I see respect reflected all throughout Cathedral. I see it in the way students support one another, the way teachers care, and the principles that shape how we learn, lead, and interact every day.
Cathedral has helped me build confidence in myself and my abilities, encouraging me to take on leadership roles, pursue my passions, and step out of my comfort zone. Respect has shaped the way I approach leadership: building relationships, facing challenges, maintaining integrity, fostering trust, and creating a positive impact in every space I encounter. This is a principle I will carry long beyond my Cathedral days, guiding the way I lead and inspiring me to leave the same impact on others that Cathedral has left on me.”
May we all learn from Gia and value respect for ourselves and others in our daily lives!

We are delighted to introduce our first “Face of Cathedral”, Esmeralda F. ‘26. Below Esmeralda shares her reflection on the value of faith, one of our five core values.
“My name is Esmeralda F. ‘26 and I am the leader of the Majority Club, a member of the Medical Gateways Academy, a member of the Enliven Club, and an officer of the Student Council. My favorite subjects are Anatomy & Physiology and American Sign Language. I have always had a passion for the healthcare field and feel a call to help people be the best versions of themselves.
Throughout my childhood, I connected to my faith through my family and community. I would always pray the Rosary with my grandmother and with my mother every night before bed. These simple, yet life impacting actions motivated me to continue to grow in my faith and seek it during my high school years through community activities such as Bible study. Our principal, Ms. Aybar’s incorporation of the Catholic faith in Cathedral High School has shaped my faith and trust in God throughout my final and most challenging years in high school. I learned through daily prayers and monthly Masses to stay strong, and learn that no matter the circumstances, I always need God in my life. I hope to show my faith to others by remaining optimistic and helping those around me, so that they too can see faith’s purpose and the good it does for everyone.”
Esmeralda continues to show us the grace God can provide in all that we do, and how He can use each of our gifts to better our community!

At the end of their junior year, five Cathedralites were chosen to represent the core values of Cathedral High School: Faith, Integrity, Respect, Service, and Hard Work. These values shape the character of our young women, strengthen their community, and guide them to live and work with purpose. In this time of great change, each of these young ladies have been chosen to represent these values since they already modeled these core values as leaders among their peers. Each young woman has taken time to reflect on what one of our core values means in her life; we are excited to share them with you over the coming month.

Did you know that in the US, Epiphany is moved to the nearest Sunday to January 1st? However, traditionally it is celebrated today, January 6, and most cultures continue to celebrate the Feast of the Three Kings today! This feast wouldn’t exist without the season of Christmas and Mary’s "Yes!” Before break, Cathedralites performed a rendition of Mary’s story in front of classmates and faculty to ready our hearts for the Christmas season. We hope yours was full of peace and hope to take into 2026!

CHS Freshman Retreat was a success! Our freshmen came together to discuss the virtue of respect, what it means for them within our school community, with Christ, and in our the world. Several seniors came and shared testimonies on their faith and helped lead small groups to facilitate discussions around faith and community.

Cathedralites were overjoyed yesterday to visit the Dance Theater of Harlem and join alumna Sharon Duncan ‘79 who introduced our students to three of the five Swans of Harlem. These women were part of the first African-American ballet company in New York City, and paved the way for ballerinas across the nation. Their story is told in the Swans of Harlem, which was required reading for our senior dance classes. Thank you for having us and giving us the opportunity to hear the company’s stories and importance in New York City.
