Yesterday, our MPH students presented their inspiring Culminating Experience projects at Public Health Research Day — the result of months of hard work, creativity, and a deep commitment to health equity. We wrapped up the day with a celebration honoring all they’ve achieved 🎉🥂

Last Friday, our MPH students put compassion into action by volunteering at as part of activities. Proud to put our passion for community health into action and serve alongside such amazing future public health leaders!

The Graduate Program of Public Health at the Icahn Mount Sinai is proud to announce its reaccreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit schools and programs of public health.

The CEPH Board of Councilors acted at its December 3-4, 2024 meeting to accredit the Graduate Program in Public Health for a seven-year term, which is the maximum term allowable. This decision reflects our program’s collective commitment to excellence in public health education, scholarship and service.

From community health initiatives to global research, their Applied Practice Experience projects are making real-world impacts. 🙌💡 We’re so proud of the passion, dedication, and creativity they bring to tackling today’s most pressing health challenges!

Last week, MPH students Allenie Arnedo, Kiran Nagdeo, Yiya Bandanapudi, and Wan Zhu all presented their work during the program's Public Health Practicum Showcase. The Applied Practice Experience is an integral part of the Master of Public Health training experience, providing an opportunity for the students to demonstrate the application of theory into practice within a public health setting. The New York and New Jersey Education and Research Center (ERC) is a CDC/NIOSH funded multi-institutional training center in occupational health and safety for Region II (New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Each year, the Pilot Projects Research Training Program of the ERC awards a list of pilot research studies lead by early-stage investigators.

MPH ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT:

For his Culminating Experience in the Master of Public Health (MPH) Program, Spundan Davé (MPH Class of ’22) had the distinct honor of being selected for the Junior Commissioned Officer
Student Training and Extern Program (JRCOSTEP). This highly competitive paid-externship program, run by the United States Public Health Service (USPHS), allows qualified students to assume the rank of Ensign (O-1), train alongside active-duty officers, and work on comprehensive projects of state and national scale.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) hosted just two individuals this past year, out of which Spundan was one of the selectees.

Overall, as a JRCOSTEP officer, Spundan was provided first-hand experience to learn concepts relevant to U.S. health care regulation, which included understanding how federal
and state entities align health care quality interests, how federal survey and certification processes work, how Civil Monetary Penalties are levied on federally deficient providers and more.

Under the auspices of his externship, preceptors, and CLIA, he has since assumed a permanent role within the agency.
