Fibromyalgia wrecked me at 40, like the mono did at 30. I hated the diagnosis and rebelled against it. After a long journey of rest, nutrition and walking, I picked back up the weights at 55.(12.17.23) It’s now May 6, 2024, and while I don’t see as much change as I did I’m my 20’s and 30’s, I can’t deny that I feel stronger and sleep better.
When I first became a certified personal trainer in the mid 90’s, I shunned all of the myths out there and l lifted heavy, mostly compound movements. I just became certified again through NASM, and in spite of everything I learned, I still believe in the classic weight lifting for most heathy populations. I have found that I need to modify some for myself and some of the older women I work with. But the basics remain the same!
