We are delighted to share that Dr. Nareg Seferian has been appointed the Nikit and Eleanora Ordjanian Visiting Professor in Columbia University’s Department of Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies (MESAAS) for Spring 2026.
Dr. Seferian will be teaching “Geography as World-Writing” (MDES UN3345), a course that explores how space, power, borders, and geopolitical imagination shape the world, with some emphasis on Armenia and Azerbaijan and the conflict over Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabakh.
The Armenian Center is proud to support the Ordjanian Visiting Professorship, established in 1988 through the generosity of Dr. Nikit and Eleanora Ordjanian, and honored over the years by distinguished scholars.

Kirill Gerstein’s Debussy/Komitas double album has just received the Special Award for Curatorial Achievement at Opus Klassik, Germany’s most prestigious classical music prize.
Already named one of The New Yorker’s Fifteen Notable Recordings of 2024 and a New York Times Best Classical Album of the Year, this project continues to garner international acclaim.
We’re proud that The Armenian Center supported this remarkable endeavor alongside the Wiener Konzerthaus, and that our own Prof. contributed one of the four chapters in the accompanying book—published in English, French, and German.
Congratulations to , and everyone involved in bringing Komitas to new global audiences!
