Waste Not, Make A Lot will be the theme of this week’s #maker camp in collaboration with our beloved @tlc_school ❤️ Today we measured dimensions of plywood then used scrap pieces to make artful designs. We learned grit size on sandpaper, as well and how to use wood glue. Tomorrow we add color! #STEAM #upcycledart #woodworking

WOW! What an amazing spring we had at Johnston Elementary School in the . From froglets and seedlings to race cars and rollercoasters, these K-4th graders did it all. Definitely gonna miss these engineering, creative and adorable young makers for the summer.

This week in #STEM at Johnston Elementary School the K-2 graders took their study of shapes to the next dimension! They used their handmade dice to learn about #probability, while learning to spell some tough words! It was an impressive week of #math #science #literacy #finemotorskills paperengineering #hardfun and #Art 👏🏽❤️

Well it was a heck of a fall y’all, but we are back to using real tools, real materials and real time in partnership with Marvelous Math Club every Monday and Thursday. The inaugural @marvelousmathclub #middleschool #maker edition was a success! Our goal is to learn how to make a business from making, and have fun while we do. We need to start at the basics, so today we cut and attached wood trying out 3 methods of cutting and three methods of connecting. We used a hand pull saw, jigsaw and circular saw to make straight cuts. We all agreed we like the circular saw best for the job. Last we looked at the importance of a pilot hole when connecting wood, so we used the power drill and driver. What an incredible week we had in #Upcycled #Fashion camp - we saved over 50 pounds of #textiles from the landfill and ended up with some amazing projects, animal and #Minecraft beanies, skirts, tote bags, tool belts, pillows, stuffies, wall art, you name it these designers made it!! Thank you @ashevilletoollibrary for lending one of the 8 sewing machines in our makerspace this week -Thank you to Rainbow alum Sarah @artsy_fartsy606 for co-teaching and doing an amazing job as a brand new #makereducator - Thank you @rainbowcommunityschool for hosting @mountain_makers for two weeks of hands on maker goodness!! 🦄 - and thank you @laloba.mx and @material_return for the inspo! #MakerEd #fashiondesign #greenfashion

Last week's essential skill in was to make a 5 pointed star using a ruler to make 5 equal lines and 36 degree angles at every point.
