NEW Leadership Circles Being Formed

CALLING ALL MATH LEADERS!

The Mathematics Leadership Committee is excited to announce the formation of our new Leadership Circles program. This program will provide a platform for experienced mathematical leaders in New York to collaborate with new / aspiring leaders. This program is an offshoot of the NCSM Mentorship Program. It is a direct result of our collaboration with them through our Gates Foundation Grant, led by our liaisons Danielle Bouton-Wales and Suzanne Libfeld.

Math Leaders are defined as:

* Mathematics leadership roles in their team, building, district, or community (e.g., instructional coaches, department chairs, curriculum leads, team leaders, teacher leaders, coordinators, directors, etc.).
* Leadership roles in local/regional/state organizations
If you are currently a mathematics leader, or are interested in becoming a leader someday, please consider joining our Leadership Circles program. We are hoping to be able to pair 1-2 experienced leaders with 2-4 new and aspiring leaders based on region and similarity of leadership positions. The year long program will consist of several Google Meets as well as a meeting at the Annual Conference in Albany on Friday November 6.

Registration forms are found below and need to be completed by May 20.

AMTNYS Leadership Webinar Registration 03/25/2026

Registration is now open for our next Webinar with Chadd McGlone on Tuesday, April 14 from 7:00pm-8:30pm

IF AI DOES THE THINKING, STUDENTS WON’T: RECLAIMING HUMAN LEARNING IN AN AI WORLD

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly embedded in K–12 learning environments, many systems claim the ability to identify what students know and to prescribe next steps for instruction. Drawing on the NCSM Educational Technology and AI Guidance for Math Leaders and analyses of teacher interactions with a purpose-trained GPT, the presentation examines how AI’s value shifts when educators use it not as a surrogate for instruction but as a partner for contextualizing learning, enriching cultural and place-based relevance, and supporting professional inquiry. The analysis proposes a conceptual shift from AI as a mechanism for instructional automation to AI as an amplifier of human thinking. This reframing positions educators, not algorithms, as the primary interpreters of student learning and as co-constructors of technological use. We will outline implications for teacher preparation, leadership decision-making, and ethical technology adoption, arguing that AI-integrated learning environments must foreground human presence, inquiry, and identity if they are to support meaningful and equitable learning.

Dr. Chadd McGlone is a mathematics educator and international leader focused on advancing equitable, research-aligned mathematics teaching through professional learning and teacher leadership. He is the Co-Founder and Founding Executive Director of Mathkind Global, a nonprofit organization supporting mathematics educators through long-term partnerships in under-resourced communities across Central America, South America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia. He is also the founder of Lesson Atlas, a teacher-facing instructional platform delivering complete, story-driven lesson systems grounded in authentic global narratives, and Five Forms Learning, which supports educators in using AI effectively and assessing in the age of emerging technologies. Dr. McGlone earned a PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has substantial experience as a classroom teacher in mathematics and science. He serves as a Board Member of the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM) and is Co-Chair of NCSM’s Task Force on AI in Mathematics Education. He previously served on the U.S. National Commission on Mathematics Instruction (USNCMI), contributing to international dialogue on mathematics education. His work centers on teacher leadership, culturally responsive pedagogy, and thoughtful integration of technology in mathematics instruction.
