Salvaging Artifacts or Protecting the Titanic's Broken Heart?

The debate over whether Titanic artifacts—such as the Marconi transmitter—should be recovered from the seabed has reignited, due to the dilemma between preserving the wreck's integrity and preserving its history. While recovering artifacts sometimes involves damaging the wreck's physical structure, as seen in video documentation of past operations, the recovered valuables can now be conserved, preserved, and displayed for future generations rather than being consumed by microorganisms and buried in mud on the seabed.
