When teachers are more prepared and have the tools they need to be effective educators, student performance increases. That's why our coaches partner with teachers to help them be the best educators they can – with real results and measurable change.

Data shows that in the 2024-2025 school year, Teaching Matters saw an average of 77% increase in teacher competency when planning whole group instruction.

A new study reminds us of what we already know: building teacher capacity is essential. The strongest learning happens when teachers feel supported, equipped and trusted to lead change.

In our partnerships, when schools invest in professional learning and ongoing coaching, the impact is clear: students thrive. Recent outcomes in NYC highlight stronger gains in reading proficiency for multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and Black and Hispanic students.

The lesson is simple. If we want better outcomes for kids, we need to keep investing in the adults who guide their learning.

Math scores are declining nationwide and the research is clear: teachers are the most powerful in-school factor shaping student learning. As Robin Lake of CRPE put it, “high-quality teachers matter.”

We’ve seen this in action. In our NYC partnerships, districts where teachers received sustained professional learning and in-context coaching saw math proficiency rise 4.8% compared to the city’s 1.9%. When teachers are supported, students succeed.

If we want to reverse the math decline, investing in teachers is the surest path forward.
