As a legacy of the Lewisohn Sisters, The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre sponsors the Junior School with an acting program catered to the young actor, 2nd-12th grades. Modeled after the adult conservatory, The Junior School trains all its students in the core principles of acting, applying techniques and skills learned

to various classes in singing, movement/dance, scene study, monologues, voice & diction, stage combat, Shakespeare, acting for film & television, commercials, voice overs, auditioning, improvisation and more--giving students complete actor training to develop their minds, bodies, voices, and personalities to grow their confidence selfless, and help them be thoughtful and generous citizens and actors. The monologue is a unique form of theatrical storytelling where one actor is speaking at length for a minute or more to either another character or the audience. In this class, students will learn the art of monologue performance, building on tools learned in their Meisner acting and improvisation class that emphasize that "acting is going." This class will help students learn how to identify beats, interpret text, and use their emotional foundation to convey meaning and make an impact in a short amount of time as a performer.

Students learn technical skills and terminology, make quick acting choices grounded in truth and display vulnerability in front of the camera and/or microphone. Students will be exposed to the various scripts used for these different genres and what’s expected when you walk into the room, or self-submit material. From cold reads to rehearsed sides, these students will be knowledgable and prepared. www.playhousejuniors.com
