On this day, we remember the ever memorable Iakovos Nafpliotis (1864-1942), who was the Archon Protopsaltis of the Holy and Great Church of Christ in Constantinople. One of the first byzantine cantors to have ever been recorded; many people also regard him as being one of the greatest.

For the third consecutive year,
AHEPA 31 of Washington, DC, is
proud to present:
A Byzantine Christmas,
Byzantine Hymns in Greek and
English and Christmas Carols
from all over the Greek World.
Hosted by Saint Sophia Cathedral
and with the support of the SBM,
The School of Byzantine Music of
the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese.
Under the Direction of Archon Mousikodidaskalos Georgios Theodoridis, the Byzantine
Choir of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, the Saint Sophia Cathedral Choir and
“Politikon Ensemble,” will musically transport us all to Bethlehem.
Come and experience the richness of Orthodox Hellenic devotional hymns that express
the fundamental tenets of faith, tradition and communion based on holy scripture that
chronicles the Nativity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Also, you will thoroughly enjoy the ancient folk art of caroling, sourced in the devotional
hymns and traditions of our Ancient Faith, handed down from island to mainland Greece,
from Asia Minor to the Black Sea. Come share our joy and celebrate with us, both
ecclesiastically and culturally, as we welcome the Light of the Christ Child into the world.
A “meet and greet” cocktail hour will follow the concert, in the Atrium of the Frosene
Center.
Please visit dcgreeks.com/sbmconcerts to purchase your tickets.
Tickets range from $35-$65 and students get a 20% discount with a valid student ID.

With the blessing of Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, the School of Byzantine Music joined our National Ministry colleagues for a two-day meeting focused on equipping ministry leaders like you to build up the body of Christ in every parish. The gathering emphasized practical strategies to strengthen parish health, enhance ministry effectiveness, and provide Christ-centered leadership training. Cantors and music ministers can anticipate new collaborative efforts and resources to help parishes engage their communities more effectively. We’re exploring ways to use the 2026 Clergy Laity Congress to convene and equip ministry workers like you.
