Congratulations to Professor Michael Fabricant on the publication of your new book entitled, “The Struggle for Public Goods in the Shadow of Fascism: Hope at Dusk.”
Professor Fabricant's book examines the present diminishment of democracy through the prism of intensifying conflict between market freedom and citizen rights. The fate of democracy is at the center of the book’s exploration of the decline of the welfare state and rise of radical right politics.

We are incredibly proud of our MSW and BSW students for representing our school at NASW-NY’s Annual Capitol Action Day in Albany, New York last week! 👏
A heartfelt thank you to Anna Ortega-Williams, BSW Director & Associate Professor, Keith Chanrok Chan, Associate Professor, Patricia Gray, Doctoral Lecturer & BSW Field Education Director, Hollis Richardson, Executive Assistant to the Dean, and Adjunct Professor and Silberman Alum Joseph DiBenedetto for leading and supporting our students during this impactful experience in Albany, New York.
Capitol Action Day, hosted by National Association of Social Workers - New York State, empowers social workers to engage directly in the advocacy process at the State Capitol—amplifying the voice of our profession and advancing policies that strengthen the communities we serve.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to Claire Valdez's office (37th Assembly District), NYS Assemblymember Christopher W. Eachus (99th Assembly District) and Diana C. Moreno (36th Assembly District) for taking the time to meet with our students, staff and faculty to discuss the issues that matter most to social workers and the individuals and families they support.
Thank you to everyone who made this meaningful day of advocacy, leadership, and professional growth possible. We are inspired by our students’ commitment to creating change! 💙

Last night, the Silberman School of Social Work hosted a Grieftastic event that brought our community together for a powerful “in conversation” program featuring Rachel Cargle our guest speaker and Meghan Riordan Jarvis our host, who guided us through an honest, nuanced dialogue on navigating us through grief, transitions all while fostering inclusion, and recognizing the vital role of social workers in times of trauma and uncertainty. From personal reflection to collective responsibility, the conversation challenged and inspired us to reimagine what care, advocacy, and community can look like.
We are so grateful to our engaged audience for showing up with openness and thoughtfulness — your presence made the night truly special.
Deep thanks to Rachel Cargle for sharing her insight, to Meghan Riordan Jarvis for holding such meaningful space on stage, and to our Professor Colleen Katz for helping bring this important event to life. We’re also grateful for the partnership and collaboration of Sophia Tsesmelis, Neeta Arbeiter, NYU Silver School of Social Work, and the Zelda Foster Studies Program.
It was a reminder that grief is not something we move through alone — and that social work is essential to building more compassionate, inclusive futures. 💛
