At 22, I got my first PE position for a charter school in the Bronx. —— Out of no where, I was told to teach health on Fridays to 9th graders.

• I was terrified and excited at the same time.
• Did I have any resources? NO. 🤯
• Did I know what I was doing? NO. 🤣

Due to the school having uplifting student events on Fridays (1/2 days), I didn’t see them often for health.

But—— when we started discussing sexual health. That’s when the REAL curiosity and REAL questions came in.

Little did they know, I was a catholic school student and didn’t get any sexual health education (so I was learning with them) 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

That’s when health education sparked for me.

I wanted to do better
I wanted to learn more
I wanted to grow in the world of health education — it became a mission and a MUST

While I was teaching at the school, I was in my masters for physical education. After I graduated, I went straight to a post-masters degree in health education.

The rest is history 💅🏼

Summer 2026 taught me valuable lessons:

• Life is truly a blink of an eye

• Show up

• Stop making excuses & figure it the hell out

• Nothing needs to be perfect, just try

• BREATHE

Each pointer has a full novela story, but I’m sure no one would read my paragraphs LOL

I wouldn’t be the educator I am today without the amazing and authentic connections I have made in the classroom, yoga studio and gym.

I had a student who I taught PE when she was in 9th grade and then I had her in Women’s Health in 12th grade — she waited to join women’s health just to end the year together . WOW

One day I became emotional because I was frustrated with my speech. I have hard a time pronouncing “big” words and reading — I remember the is day clearly.

I said “I’m sorry everyone, I have hard time speaking and I feel really weird being a teacher because of it”

She said “Ms. Rosa, I love the way you speak”

I felt grounded.

We helped each other.
Education - Confidence - Authenticity- Purity

Since then, I remind myself :

🌻 Jess, be yourself. Who gravitates to you, are the people who accept you and want you in their circle.

Be kind everyone!

Many lessons learned in this 1st time track and field experience 🤣🏃🏽‍♂️💨🙏

Our son (6) said “Mom, want to run track”

And so the journey began with URGENCY - to not only locate a club team but also text parents I knew had insights about track and field.

He was so excited to be here for the day while we (parents) melted from 7:30 am - approx 5 pm 🫠🤣

As a swimmer, we are indoors (unless you swim in a sunny state!) - so I was already used to long hours of waiting. But, this was definitely different 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

We are proud of this rockstar who wants to get better.

We left around 5pm, although the meet was not over yet (girls and relays) and he said “I want to run more races…”

Uhhhhh we are going HOME now 🤣🙏🥰
