This is what is happening in Kitengela right now. In this video, you see men trying to lift cattle that are so weak from starvation that they cannot stand on their own legs. The cars are waiting to carry away the corpses. So far, over four million cattle have died in Kenya alone.

Acacia Moyo tries to offset this catastrophe by developing alternative sources of income for the Maasai community in Kitengela, near Nairobi. We're starting a beekeeping project!

Some of my FB friends are aware that I work with a Maasai community in Kitengela, Kenya, to develop alternative sources of income to the keeping of livestock. With the current drought, hundreds of thousands of cattle, sheep and goats have died of starvation. The Maasai rely on them for food and to pay school fees and other necessities. The drought has brought this and most other East African communities to the brink of sustainable survival.

With ACACIA MOYO, an organization founded in 2018, I have been putting all the parts together to start a beekeeping business with the community.

Please watch this short video to get an idea of the deep community engagement we now enjoy. You will not understand what people are saying, as they speak in Maa and Kisuaheli, but you will get a sense of the joy and participation in this new venture.

Our deep thanks to the Rotary Club of Nairobi which has committed to building a rainwater harvesting pan on our apiary site to provide irrigation for the bee forage we need.

Enjoy the video and if you would like to help us out with a donation for hives or towards a borehole, please do so here:

I am launching a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for a beekeeping project with the Maasai community in Kitengela, Kenya.
Please take a look at the campaign site and be sure to watch the short film that explains our work and why beekeeping is the best possible source of sustainable income for this community.
Learn how the community is striving to maintain their Maasai culture while struggling to survive economically in harsh conditions caused by climate change and marginalization.
Then hit that donate button!
With many thanks for your support.
