In April, Nose University began development on Scentest Kids, Covid-19 related smell loss screening and training for children.
🌈👃🌈

Sudden smell loss can be an early sign of Covid-19, even before or without the presence of other symptoms. We aim to provide a simple, non-invasive and hygienic smell panel to get kids sniffing and talking.

This practical, fun and age-appropriate scratch n’ sniff test can be administrated by parents at home or staff at school. It will help identify children who may be experiencing sudden onset smell loss and require further evaluation. Such screening in early, even asymptomatic, stages may help reduce transmission of the virus.

Scentest Kids will also provide smell training to children who are experiencing long-lasting (or late onset) Covid-19 related smell dysfunction.

In this phase of development, we are seeking summer camps or schools that are interested in running a Scentest Kids pilot test.

If you’d like to get involved, know someone who could help or for more information, please DM me.

Let’s sniff out Covid-19 related smell loss and help kids transition safely and happily back to school! ✨👃✨

Every student in a Nose University class takes home an evaluation folder with pre-scented blotters enclosed.

This extends their experience, so “noses- in-training” can show off their skills to family and friends and share their newfound knowledge.

With smelling, I always encourage children to continue practicing.

✨📻✨Tune in tomorrow, 2/27 to WHERE BRAINS MEET BEAUTY™ a weekly podcast series about the beauty industry.
Host Jodi Katz, Founder & Creative Director of Base Beauty Creative Agency, welcomed me into her studio for a relaxed and honest conversation about my career journey as a Fragrance Evaluator and Scent Educator.
We discussed the struggles and highs of starting my own business — including why I embrace my mistakes, the respect I have for perfumers and the importance of educating a new generation of olfactive geniuses.
Thank you , it was great fun! ✨📻✨

Awesome Scent & Sensory class tonight with the Girl Scouts.

✨✨✨

Girls learned the artistry of perfumery 🎨 and science behind their sense of smell. 🔬

They found their inspiration and made their very own natural rollerball fragrance.

The first time I conducted a Scent Education workshop with 7 year olds, I casually threw out the question, “What is your favorite scent memory?”

Because of their young age, I thought they may struggle to come up with a response.

Instead, every hand shot up and each had poignant, funny and interesting memory to share.

I realized that learning about scent is not only fun for kids - but important too.

Connecting to their memories, and sharing them, is a way for children to learn about themselves and each other in a way they might not have before.

This particular child and his scent memory, stayed with me. I hope the smell of fresh cut grass always brings back these memories of childhood for him.

Colors and Scents 🦋

..

We’ve been working on some fun new programs at Nose University, including a look at how color and scent relate to one another to affect human emotions and behavior.

Color, like scent, can be subjective and individual responses, perceptions and association can vary wildly.

It’s exciting to look at color and scent together, to understand how both influence our feelings and memories, and why.

Stay tuned for upcoming workshops ... ✨🌈✨

Creator of SpongeBob SquarePants Mr. Stephen Hillenburg was a former marine biologist who said, "Hopefully, if you watch SpongeBob, you see plankton and crabs and starfish -- and you'll want to take care of our oceans."

SpongeBob’s amazing underwater world was the inspiration for Nose University Smells of The Sea programs, in which kids explored the smells of pineapple, tiki flower, sand, jellyfish, ocean and coconut.
