Rafael Aguirre, an 83-year-old lifelong learner, recently made headlines when a photo of him at the May 9 2025 commencement ceremony captured hearts across the country, having been viewed by more than 7 million people on social and news media. Though he first earned an associate degree in applied science and mechanical engineering technology from Amarillo College in 1995, this past year he went back and studied heating, ventilation & air-conditioning (HVAC), earning multiple certificates including HVAC assistant and technician.
Aguirre’s story is being shared widely as a powerful reminder that education has no age limit and that dedication and lifelong learning can inspire others. He reportedly balanced long hours of work (8-10 hours a day) while studying, learning in a second language, and his instructors describe him as “the embodiment of the knowledge-hungry, perfect student”, always the first to class and staying until he mastered the material.

I graduated with a degree in vocal performance, specializing in opera, from the Boston Conservatory. While I cherished my time in the arts, I soon realized it wasn’t my ultimate path. This revelation led me to Teacher’s College, where I earned a Master of Science in adolescent math education. Currently, I am pursuing a PhD in psychology.
Growing up, I was a terrible student. I faced significant challenges as school didn’t come easy to me, despite being told by my parents and teachers that I was bright but not applying myself. As a first-generation Canadian, I wrestled with tremendous self-imposed expectations in school and life. My parents raised me in a beautifully eclectic way, immersing me in many religions and cultures. While this enriched my life, it also made it difficult to form a clear sense of identity and sense of belonging, which eventually manifested as depression and anxiety.
My healing journey has opened up a world of thought that has made my entire life make sense. Being an empath and a highly sensitive person, I became fascinated by the healing process and human nature. This led me to integrate my background in cognitive development (which is essentially the heart of the art of teaching) with my newfound appreciation for emotional resilience.
As an executive function coach, I merge my deep, studied experience in learning and emotions to help others. Learning is a continuous process that occurs in every aspect of life. Emotions profoundly impact our learning, choices, and actions—sometimes, our inaction. That’s what I believe truly sets my coaching apart. 🩷

Feeling overwhelmed about how to help your child finish the school year strong?
I specialize in empowering students to master learning skills that last a lifetime, and it’s never too late to start. Even if we begin as late as mid-April or early May, I work closely with your child to ensure a successful end to their school year.
📘 My Approach: I don’t simply teach or reteach material—I guide students to learn independently. Depending on the package you choose, I’ll meet with your child several times throughout the week to organize, prioritize, plan, and execute effective study. The difference in my coaching is that I hold students accountable for their learning via frequent and daily text check-ins, fostering responsibility and growth without becoming a crutch.
Let’s make a plan that propels your child toward academic success. 🩷

This is from a client who graduated high school 6 months before starting with me. I’m so humbled to be on this journey with him.
“Five months ago, I didn’t like myself.
I was anxious and depressed. I couldn't care less about setting goals and making plans. Today, I know why goal-setting and planning/scheduling are important. I understand the power of structure in life. I also realized how important and healthy it is to feel your emotions. Now, I love myself,
and I love the way I think.”

New Testimonial from a current senior in college 🥺
“Working with Sangeetha has been truly an amazing experience. She has helped me so much and shown me new ways that actually help me with my personal stuff. Without a doubt, no one I have worked with in the past has made as much of a difference or helped as much with my self-improvement as she has. I am forever grateful for the progress I have made and for the new ways of navigating life and its battles. I will be taking all I have learned with me into the next phase of my life and be able to handle all that comes my way in a better light.”
