Meet the subject of our next , 2026 FSF Scholar Anushka Rala of the University of Southern California! Anushka spent her summer with IBM as a design and UX research intern - watch (and read on) as she shares more about what she learned and experienced from her time in the role, and how she bridged fashion and tech:

"My internship at IBM has been defined by adaptability and pursuit of growth. Being a part of such a large tech company that deploys products at a global scale gave me the opportunity to really learn how to take charge of my own learning and be proactive in not only seeking challenges, but actively creating solutions even when I didn’t know exactly how to start.

Pulling from my experience as an intuitive UI/UX designer paired with an understanding of marketing and visibility that I gained from the fashion industry, I was able to craft a unique and fascinating internship experience for myself. With just a few weeks of my internship remaining, it’s exciting to see how far I’ve come in my understanding of technology, collaboration, and human behavior. I can’t wait for what’s next!"

Today's : 2025 and 2026 FSF Scholar Casey Feldman of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, who spent her summer interning with the buying team at Ross Stores!

"From analyzing sales and running reports to sending weekly business recaps, I gained hands-on experience as a Ross Stores intern supporting the buying process and learning how buyers, planners, and vendors work together to drive the business. Some of my favorite experiences included attending market appointments, participating in weekly TBs with my team, and working on the intern project. I loved getting an inside look at trend selection, vendor partnerships, and the strategy behind bringing great product to customers. Grateful for an amazing summer of learning, mentorship, and growth with the Ross team!"

This month, 2026 Virgil Abloh™ “Post-Modern” Scholar and Macy's, Inc. Jeff Gennette Scholarship Program recipient Jordan Hobbs of Auburn University had the opportunity to spend four days in New York City shadowing her FSF mentor, 2023 Virgil Abloh™ “Post-Modern” Scholar Tracey Jean-Claude!

While working alongside Tracey, an assistant designer with Macy’s ALFANI brand, Jordan gained an up-close look at the design process and the day-to-day work behind a major fashion retailer, which included fabric swatching, competitor research, meeting with Tracey's design team colleagues, and more.

Today's spotlights 2026 Virgil Abloh™️ "Post-Modern" Scholar Maya Peats, who recently joined REVOLVE as an Assistant Designer in their Downtown LA offices!

"One of the biggest things I've learned in my first job is how important it is to balance being flexible while staying organized. With the fast pace of the fashion industry, I've had to learn how to shift priorities when something urgent comes up, while still keeping track of everything else I'm working on. I've also realized how important soft skills are. Communication, time management, teamwork, empathy, and having a positive attitude are just as important as having strong technical design skills.

A typical day for me includes attending fittings, researching inspiration for upcoming collections, sketching into concepts, communicating with vendors, and working with cross-functional teams throughout the design process. One of my favorite experiences so far has been sketching into concepts for an upcoming collection and seeing those ideas move through development.

My education at Otis College of Art and Design gave me the technical foundation to step into this role, while my experience with FSF helped me become more comfortable networking, making meaningful first impressions, and building professional relationships."

Today's : Class of 2026 FSF Scholar Beau Rosin of Colorado State University, who spent his summer as Apparel Design Intern at Abercrombie & Fitch Co.!

"Coming into my role working with the Hollister Co. Men's Fleece team with limited experience designing knits, I enjoyed expanding my understanding of fleece design, product development, and the Hollister brand. Two major highlights were my cross-functional group case study, which challenged me to collaborate with partners across multiple areas of the business, and my individual internship project, for which I applied my technical design skills to create an outdoor-inspired collection focused on functional and innovative fleece design."
