Though I've been fully committed to motherhood and my sweet babe recently, I had a chance to prepare this placenta and mementos for a lovely family after the birth of their little one.
I am taking a step back from birth and postpartum doulahood to focus on my family, however I'm still available (and over-the-moon) to encapsulate placentas!

An attitude of reverence and a belief in the spirit of the placenta isn't an isolated or new idea.
In the Province of Chkalov in Russia the placenta is believed to be a form of birth control. After careful burial with the umbilical cord upwards, the woman
will continue to be fruitful. If dug up and turned with the cord downwards, she is said to have no more children.
Did you get to see your placenta? What did you do with it?

A little bit of planning can make a world of difference for your postpartum journey. Once you're holding a teeny human in your arms, priorities naturally shift + some tasks become a bit more challenging.
Keep your midwife/OBGYN, pediatrician, lactation consultant, and any other providers' information in a together so that you can easily reach out to them after your birth.
Postpartum provides a unique opportunity to slow down to nature's pace. Be prepared to forgive yourself for not being as productive, organized + sharp as your pre-baby self. Try to make room in the first few weeks for snuggling, feeding, replenishing your body, healing, + laughter- let everything else fall to the wayside for now.
whether that means making lots of freezer casseroles, buying bulk prepared soups, scheduling a meal delivery service (πββοΈ), or putting together a meal train. Your body absolutely requires nutrients to get you through these weeks of intense healing, sleepless nights + neurological reorganization.ππ₯π«
Talk with your support system about what they can do to help after the baby arrives. Ask for what you need ahead of time by assigning tasks like laundry, errands + cleaning to family and friends who will be visiting.
They will be sure you've got nourishing food, hydration, rest, a hot shower, a shoulder to lean on + ALLLL of the resources you need.
You may feel extremely vulnerable at first and experience some resistance to the idea, but a sense of community, validation + support can uplift your spirit and help you to cope with the challenges of mothering a new baby.
Capture the details of your labour + birth as soon as possible. In the future, your children will want to hear the story over and over + it will always be there for you to pull strength from or to consult throughout your healing.
around hand washing, holding the baby, visiting hours + your parenting style before your baby is born. These can be tough conversations, but trust me- you will not want to be having them in the early weeks of postpartum.
all over your home in locations that makes sense to you. It is incredibly helpful to have at least one of each of the following: diaper changing station, postpartum wellness station, breastfeeding station, bottle/pump station. Fully stock each station before baby arrives to make the first few weeks a bit easier.

How's this for a new momma care package? ππ₯π
This basket is loaded with colorful, nourishing meals, home simmered bone broth + good-for-you treats designed to replenish postpartum bodies.
The act of breastfeeding can burn up to 500 extra calories per day and pregnancy is known to deplete essential nutrients from the body... so granola bars on the run aren't going to cut it this time!
Reaching for nutrient dense foods in the postpartum period has been shown to decrease the risk of some perinatal mood disorders, promotes milk production, and helps to begin the healing process after birth.
Want to start postpartum on the right foot or know a new family that could use a hand? Gift or invest in a Postpartum Meal Delivery Package today.

Let's talk about partners & doulas!
When considering a birth doula, many partners worry that they will lose their place in the birth room if they bring on someone to help...
Q U I T E T H E C O N T R A R Y.
Just like conception, the work of birth is meant to be done by both of you.
The most common fears that partners have about birth are:
1) Fear of the unknown
When a doula is present, a few things shift for birth partners. Right from the first labour surges, a doula helps to set the tone for the environment- she reassures everyone with the experience + belief that birth is safe + normal.
2) Not knowing what to do or how to help
A doula not only acts as a support for both parents, but also a toolbox of sorts, capable of adapting to the ever changing conditions of labour and offering partners ways that they can help along the way.
3) Fear of loss or suffering
It is true that birth is an unpredictable and mighty force. In the case that an emergency occurs during birth, a doula can act as an extra pair of hands to ensure that partners can focus on their family.
Bearing witness to partners participating in birth in their own unique ways is one of my greatest honors in this work.

It's encapsulation time!!
π π π
While there is little evidence based information available regarding placenta encapsulation, anecdotal reports suggest that it has many benefits...
not to mention the U N D E N I A B L E energetic connection you have to the organ that nourished your new baby for so long.
The possible benefits of placenta encapsulation include: a decrease in postpartum mood disorders, increased production of oxytocin, a decrease in stress hormones, restoration of iron levels following bleeding after birth, and increased milk supply.
