Try to think what will happen with the plastic you are just buying. It may be recycled but it is unlikely (9%), or it will be burned for energy but the highest probability is it will end up in landfill or goes to the ocean. 🌱
-
How much plastic do you still buy?

What happens when you start importing single use plastic and your country doesn’t have a proper waste management to deal with it?
-
The whole country will drown. During rainy seasons, tons of plastic get in rivers and all ends up in our oceans.
-
Single-use plastic producers need to be kept responsible for polluting the planet.
-
Let companies you buy from know what you think about them and ask them to take actions. 🌱 Let’s get rid of single use plastic at the first place. 🌏

Despite all efforts done, landfills grow at incredible pace. It is estimated that equivalent of 1 full truck of plastic is dumped into the ocean every minute! That sums up at 8 million tons of plastic every year.
-
👉What you can do?
• share the knowledge as much as you can, a lot of people use plastic just as an habit, they need someone to open their eyes
• refuse to buy products wrapped in plastic, make an effort to find alternatives
• talk to you vendors and supermarkets you shop at, they need to hear their customers
• stop buying bottled water
• bring your own shopping bag, reusable coffee cups, etc.
• ❗️do your own research, you will be surprised how much you didn’t know

So nice to see a classic Indonesian floating market where produce is brought as made by nature or in reusable containers. Not sure however how is later taken by people to their homes. Indonesia is generally serious plastic polluter but as some may have experienced, there are still places where people use nature-made containers and banana leaves as packaging.
-
I’ve been personally in Bali where situation is seriously bad. Spoke to locals in north who pointed to tourism which brought many plastic-related issues.

Western world maybe at least realising how bad is plastic for environment even if not much is happening to stop it. But Asia is whole different story. People don’t see plastic as a thread but rather commodity that makes everyday life easy and adds/increases value of everything wrapped in it. That means extreme overuse everywhere possible without thinking/reusing/recycling.
-
Such approach in combination with poor waste management results is tons of plastic covering streets, waters and land. Plastic is often burned in dumpsites polluting air or washed in rivers during heavy rains.
