🇺🇸TRANSLATION
A miracle happened at the market today. check it out.
At the stand where I always go to buy my beloved Catogna puntarella, I saw some absolutely gorgeous cucumbers—freshly picked, long, with a gentle curve.

You should know that the woman who works at this stand has never once smiled at me in the five years I’ve been going there. She’s always very serious, even grumpy.

I point to the cucumbers and she tells me, “This variety is called Dutch cucumber, but they’re Italian. They’re from Fondi, my hometown.”

Then, in an instant, without even thinking (as often happens to me), I reply, “But do you think the Dutch take that as a compliment?”

And she, who had never smiled at me, bursts out laughing and can’t stop.
I’m overjoyed—even though I’m not a native speaker, I managed to crack a joke in Italian, and on top of that, I made this serious-faced lady laugh.

What a thrill. By the way, I bought two.
