“I spend my time between LA, Munich, New York and Santa Fe, so I’m constantly on the road. I love knitting when I commute or travel: I've knitted on trains, buses, planes, subways and cars. I also have a habit of walking and knitting at the same time. Knitting is a state of pureness and equilibrium. There is an instant feeling of mindfulness when I start knitting.”
- Nora Abousteit, Founder and CEO of CraftJam
Featured in the upcoming issue of Laine Publishing, a well-loved Finnish publication on knitting, is CraftJam founder and CEO, on her lifelong love of knitting.
Thank you for the feature and thank you to and for the makeup and photography!

Meet Garine, a landscape painter and JamMaster with CraftJam. Garine worked in the fine arts field in New York City for many years and is trained in plein air painting:
⭐️What kind of art do you make?
I paint! I paint in watercolor, oils and just this summer have delved into gouache. I primarily paint landscapes -- I love to pick a location and paint on site. There's nothing like being in the midst of the scene and trying to capture the light change while battling the many challenges of plein air painting! I also paint scenes from photos, like homes or vacation spots.
⭐️How did you start making or crafting?
I have always enjoyed the visual arts... I've been painting on and off since high school and have only recently devoted more time to studying, experimenting and taking classes to further my skills. There's always something new to learn!
⭐️What you love most about teaching?
I love breaking down the steps to make the process easier to digest and understand. I also love breaking down the walls that keep many from even attempting to pick up a brush. But most of all, I love the confidence that comes from trying something new and enjoying the process!
⭐️Fun fact or anything else we should share?
Creating is a lifelong and fulfilling endeavor. With an open mind and an open heart you can learn anything.
Join Garine in our first Botanical Watercolor Workshop Series. Starting next month she will be guiding you on a journey to learn to use watercolor to create gorgeous compositions while you connect with your peers and find wellness in creativity. Tickets via the link in our bio ⬆️
