The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is the nation’s largest youth employment program, connecting NYC youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experience each summer.

Participants have the opportunity to explore their interests and career pathways, develop workplace skills and engage in learning experiences that help in developing their social, civic and leadership skills.

By participating in structured project and work-based opportunities, NYC youth are better prepared for careers of the future.

ConnectED Library HotSpot

This Library program enables the families of eligible students to “check out” Internet service from the Library—absolutely free. The program is intended to help New York City public school students access online educational resources at home to help complete their homework.

The ConnectED Library Hotspot Loan Program is a collaborative program by New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library, Queens Public Library and Department of Education to provide thousands of NYC K12 students with free Internet access for the rest of the school year. This program addresses the needs of more than 1 in 5 New York City households who do not have home access to high-speed Internet services.

In order to participate in the Library Hotspot Loan Program, you must prepared to present your Queens Library adult library card. In addition, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:

Program Details

1. Who is eligible to participate?
The program is open to patrons who:
• are at least 18 years old and have a child in a New York City public school
• have no household Internet access at the time of sign-up
• have a valid adult library card with no outstanding fines over $15. If you are eligible, please visit the library in advance to confirm that your library card is active and to resolve any outstanding fines.

2. How long can I check out the device?
The device and service can be borrowed until July 5, 2019.

3. How much will it cost?
It is absolutely free. There are no fees for the device or service.

4. What if I lose it or return it late?
If the device is lost or not returned, a fine of $100 will be assessed and your library card privileges will be blocked until the device is returned or the fine is paid.

How to Check Out a HotSpot

Queens Library will lend out HotSpots for the school year 2018 - 2019. Please check to ensure that you meet the elibility requirements above. Attend an upcoming lending event and bring your Queens Library card and valid ID such as a NYS drivers license.

Podcast Workshop | Queens Library 09/08/2018

Attention Teens! If you are interested in a career in broadcast journalism, audio engineering, news reporting, or radio, this program will take you one step closer to your dreams. You can make your own podcasts to be shared with Queens Library’s community and the public!

You will learn how to produce podcasts, edit audio recordings, and interview a variety of interesting people. This program is for ages 12-19 and will take place at Central Library as well as at the Queens Library for Teens in Far Rockaway. Choose the topic you want to explore and take it from there – the sky is the limit! This is a great experience to put on your resume and to help you in earning scholarships for your future education.

The first 15 people to fulfill the program requirements will receive a Samsung Tablet.

With these concerns in mind, Global Teletherapy is proud to help defray the rising costs of higher education. Global Teletherapy is offering any current college or graduate school student who understands what it means to accept responsibility to improve his or her community the opportunity to earn a $1,000 merit-based scholarship. Apollo Theater Summer Internship

The Apollo Theater Academy Summer Internship Program provides high school students with opportunities for professional and personal development as they explore managerial and production careers in the performing arts and entertainment industries. Interns learn about non-performance careers and what takes place behind the scenes at the Apollo Theater. Interns are assigned to work alongside staff members of the Apollo Theater for six weeks in various production departments to learn about lighting design, videography, audio engineering, carpentry and prop creation; interns will also be exposed to careers in arts administration while learning what it takes to produce live shows. New York On Tech: Tech Flex Leaders Program

The Tech Flex Leaders Program is a selective year-long immersive experience for juniors and seniors enrolled in a NYC high school. The program offers students access to weekly technology classes, mentorship with technology professionals and access to professional opportunities across NYC technology companies like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and more! Students selected for the immersive are uniquely positioned to develop a portfolio of technology projects that illustrate a fundamental understanding of front- and back-end web development.
