In translation and interpretation you can never choose your client, time of the project or the subject matter. There is always a challenge in each and every project. You can only do your best and exercise your short term memory at unfamiliar situations. This project was a good start for me right after a very long and an incredible vacation. Often the translation projects puts me at the edges of global politics and current events. It was an interesting experience to be involved at the interpretation event for Dr. Oz, President Erdogan and Minister of Treasury and Finance Berat Albayrak at TAIK and DEIK meetings related to UN gatherings.

It does not matter which field you work on, to have a free and a creative mind, one needs education, freedom of speech and a functioning of justice system. In any country the falling down starts when the education quality goes down, censorship on media happens and tempering with justice system takes place. Therefor; every individual has responsibility of giving proper education to their kids, requesting true information from media and right to unbiased justice system. The sign from İstanbul Bar Association below reads: “if the voice of attorneys kept silent the voice of public will be silent.” Figuring out the paradox is the reader’s challenge.

Happy International Translation Day!

All of us are blessed with the same skill whether we work as an translator or not. We, every minute receive information with our sensors and we translate them into information in our brains.

Personally, being in the profession has always been eye opening experience for me. My duties of 25 years as an interpreter shaped me as a person. I understood every story has not only 2 sides, not 3 but has a side as many people as involved. Listening each party and observing all the information forced me to guess the results of specific conversations. %90 of the time I was right in my guess. The best conversation starts with listening.

The world of the translator and the world of the interpreter are two professions dedicated to one goal: facilitating communication between people. As the world becomes more integrated, fostering understanding between the multitude of speakers is more critical than ever. Whether it is in writing or in speech. Interpreters and translators are at the junction point that impacts the development of business, science, medicine, technology, international law, politics and a host of other areas. We provide the ability for each of these worlds to learn from each other to the benefit of society as a whole. The role of translators and interpreters in connecting worlds is to open up the whole world to all of us.

"The Chinese use two brush strokes to write the word 'crisis.' One brush stroke stands for danger; the other for opportunity. In a crisis, be aware of the danger--but recognize the opportunity." JFK
