Although we did not develop the programming we had hoped, our advocacy work helped drive a lesser-known topic. Using custom international programs to boost student mobility and graduate marketplace success.
Broadening the market-focus has lead to discussions with a community college about the value of an international education component. More soon.
Disparities in Patient Experiences, Health Care Processes, and Outcomes: The Role of Patient-Provider Racial, Ethnic, and Language Concordance by Cooper and Powe (Johns Hopkins University). Haven't found this thesis extended to global health yet, but I assume the findings would be consistent.
Given the recent focus on Africa and countries like Haiti; US global health professional pipelines could use a strong MSI feeder program.

Went back to the drawing board. With partners: IES Abroad and the North Carolina Study Abroad/Global Engagement (NC-SAGE) Partnership, we are planning a 2015 public health course pilot. The likely venue: Costa Rica. Also, IERCEF is going through a bit of a re-org and will be relocating its HQ to Maryland. More later; sorry for the radio silence its been busy. James McNeil, a Livingstone College senior (in the foreground), traveled to Peru last summer for a real field-study and inter-cultural experience. Our goal is to integrate study abroad with course work, boosting student learning and marketplace outcomes.
