Today marked the culmination of a dynamic, integrated, cross-disciplinary unit originally designed by our former Head of Early Childhood Division, Suzie Newman. We were so honored that she stopped by to see the final presentations in action! To prepare for the big event, all three Kindergarten classes spent weeks doing deep-dive field research, exploring the park grounds and landmarks, and visiting the Swedish Marionette Theatre.
Back in the classroom, the students translated their experiences into serious scholarship and creative art pieces. They read books about the park, wrote individual reports, and painted lovely representations of iconic landmarks stretching from Bethesda Fountain to the Italian Gardens. The highlight was each class’s own 3D model of the park’s landmarks using found and crafting materials—with one class going all-out to build a classic food stand!
In addition to the incredible displays, a wonderful part of our Central Park Breakfast was watching the students proudly read aloud their original riddles, sharing the clever clues they had written for their families. The presentations were punctuated by a joyful, original Central Park song they wrote and sang together.
A huge thank you to our amazing Kindergarten educators who masterfully guided the students through this deep-dive study and nurtured their remarkable creativity every step of the way! We are so proud of our little experts. Swipe to tour our student-made park!

Big mazel tov to Lazlo ‘29!
We are incredibly proud to share that Lazlo has been named a contest finalist in the West Side Campaign Against Hunger’s 2026 Writing Against Hunger contest! His creative poem was selected to be featured on wscah.org and has even been submitted for consideration by Poetry X Hunger.
Lazlo’s achievement beautifully reflects the meaningful work happening across all our classrooms. Throughout the year, our school proudly partners with WSCAH across multiple grade levels, integrating vital lessons on “tzedakah” into our curriculum. From hands-on community service projects to deeply exploring the root causes of food insecurity, our students learn what it truly means to pursue justice and support our neighbors.
Way to go, Lazlo! We love seeing our students use their creative voices to highlight the fight against hunger.

Our community was out in full force last week to celebrate a Rodeph Sholom School milestone: the 8th Grade Capstone Project Expo!
We are so incredibly proud of the deep thinking and passion that went into every single unique project. Whether researching how early mentorship builds a foundation for strong future leaders by interviewing local political figures, advocating for equity in sports funding, or comparing the resilience of Elie Wiesel and Stan Lee through their writing, our graduating 8th graders truly outdid themselves.
Seeing the confidence and articulateness of these students is a poignant reminder of the full Rodeph Sholom School journey. The academic foundation and community values built here from day one were on full display. They aren’t just ready for high school; they are ready to be leaders in life. Way to go, 8th Grade!

From All School Shabbat straight to storytime! This morning, our 4th Grade authors visited Kindergarten to debut their final Animal Book Projects—the culmination of months of rigorous research, note-taking, and multi-paragraph essay writing as they learned about the nonfiction writing process.
The best part? This morning is just the beginning of a long-term bond. Next year, when these kindergarteners enter 1st grade, and the 4th graders step into 5th Grade, they will navigate the school year together as official buddies! From early childhood curiosity to middle school leadership, we love watching our students grow, lead, and mentor one another at every stage of their educational journey. Shabbat Shalom!

Watching our students connect their yearlong Civil Rights studies to real-world artifacts brings a new dimension to “experiential learning.” From the streets of Philadelphia to the monuments of DC, they didn’t just see history—they felt it. These are the moments where empathy is built, and big questions are asked.
They capped off the week with a moonlit walking ghost tour and cheering in the stands at a game. Welcome home, 7th Grade. We can’t wait to see how these stories shape your next chapter.
