Fall Comes Early to Lake Valhalla
How is everyone doing? Are you feeling it too—the subtle turning of the seasons, with just a hint of fall already in the air?
A few days ago, my hiking buddy and fellow photographer Randall J Hodges reached out about taking a fall-color hike to Lake Valhalla for sunset. My first thought was, Isn’t it a little early? But Randall had been up there the week before and assured me the colors were already beginning to change.
Sure enough, we made the hike yesterday, and the fall color wheel was already turning. Patches of autumn color were appearing along the lakeshore, while larger swaths of red and gold were beginning to sweep across the slopes of Mt. McCausland.
Lake Valhalla was our intermission before heading higher for sunset—a chance to slow down, enjoy the changing colors, and relax for a while. I made some dinner while Randall decided a swim in the chilly lake sounded like a good idea. It was a very quick swim—no more than a minute or two. LOL!
There will be more photographs to come, along with some behind-the-scenes video from the hike—including an appearance by Foxie the Dog.
Fall may not officially be here yet, but in the mountains, the season has already begun to turn.
