Hey, amazing parents! π Have you ever wondered how you can support your little oneβs journey into the exciting world of reading and speaking? One key skill they need is phonemic awareness, the ability to hear and manipulate the sounds in words. And guess what? You can help them develop this right at home! π‘πΆ
Hereβs a simple tip: When youβre spending time together, try slowing down and splitting words into their sounds. For example, take the word "cat". Break it down slowly: "C" - "A" - "T" with little breaks between each sound. Emphasize each sound and let your toddler try to imitate you. Itβs not just educational, itβs a fun game! ππ
Slowly increase the breaks between each letter as your child gets better at blending the sounds together. This method helps toddlers recognize individual sounds, which is crucial for both reading and speaking. The more they practice, the better their verbal skills will become!
