The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) at the College of Staten Island can help guide you through your life choices whether it may be to better your English, to get a High School Equivalency certificate/ TASC Prep, enrolling in a low cost pre-college program (CLIP and CUNY Start), obtain information about attending college, to receive assistance with immigration or citizenship, or obtai
ning career advice. Deferred Action grants eligible undocumented youth work authorization and temporary relief from deportation. Deferred action will be valid for two years and may be renewed at the end of the two years. Some benefits that DACA individuals can obtain are a driver’s license and social security. Deferred action does not provide a path to lawful permanent resident status or U.S. citizenship. DACA at the College of Staten Island is partnered with CUNY Citizenship Now and WorkForce1. You may be eligible for DACA if you:
-Born on or after June 16, 1981.
-Came to the U.S. before your 16th birthday.
-Have continuously resided in the United States since June 15, 2007, up to the present time.
-Entered without inspection before June 15, 2012, or your lawful immigration status expired as of June 15, 2012.
-Have graduated or obtained a certificate of completion from high school, have obtained a general education development (HSE) certificate or/ are an honorably discharged veteran of the Coast Guard or Armed Forces of the United States or/ are currently in school.
