JVIB is very pleased to present the 2024 Special Issue on Evidence-Based Interventions for CVI, with guest editors Amanda Hall Lueck and Corinna Bauer.
The 2024 Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness (JVIB) special issue on cerebral visual impairment (CVI) features commentary on the lived experiences of individuals with CVI and their families. A recurring theme? One-size-fits-all approaches don’t work.
- A parent of a 10-year-old with CVI shared, “What worked for their child won’t necessarily work for mine, as they are all so unique.”
- A college student with CVI explained, “Don’t think every one of us needs to be treated like we are fully blind.”
- Author Nicola McDowell urged, “I ask that professionals walk alongside us as we work out what strategies allow us to thrive.”

Researchers at the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) are working with researchers at Lehigh University to design a new indoor wayfinding app. The new app will help people with a variety of disabilities get around in complex buildings like airports or conference centers.
If you are an adult who is blind or has low vision, we invite you to fill out this online survey to get your thoughts about how this app can be made accessible and useful for blind and low-vision users.
Specific survey topics include:
● The technology you use when you travel
● Any experience you have using indoor wayfinding apps
● Barriers you encounter when navigating large indoor spaces
● Your ideas about how to design a good indoor wayfinding app
● Your thoughts about the new app Lehigh researchers are working on
● Your demographics and employment information
The survey should take about 30-45 minutes to complete. You will have the opportunity to enter a raffle to win one of 20 $50 Amazon gift cards.
We’ll use what we learn from this survey to:
● Help Lehigh University design a wayfinding app that meets the needs of blind and low-vision users
● Share information with other app developers to guide their work
To take the survey, ask questions, or obtain more information please contact Dr. Arielle Silverman, AFB Director of Research, [email protected] or 202-469-6832.
The survey will close on October 15, 2024.
