College Now Statement: Black Lives Matter
College Now expresses support of our students and colleagues whose lives, families and communities have been most deeply impacted by the pandemic, economic downturn, legacy of racist oppression, and police brutality. College Now pledges to use our resources and energies to promote healing, social justice and resilience in those communities and in ours. College Now respects those protesting, resisting and building community across our city and country. Today and every day, we stand with the Black community and proclaim that Black Lives Matter.
Our hearts are with the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, and countless others who have lost their lives to racial violence and systemic oppression in the United States. College Now stands against white supremacy and racism of any kind.
The light for the future is surely in the fierce, brave, beautiful faces of the people -- so many of them young folks -- in the streets this week across the whole world.
How do our daily choices contribute to oppression? How do we use our time and resources to elevate the voices of Black community members? At the retreat this year, we will begin to reflect on these questions as they apply to our work together and in communities across New York City.
