Join us for a fun and thought-provoking gathering with this year’s Inquiry to Action Group as they explore Abbott Elementary as a text for reflection, dialogue, learning and dreaming. If you love the show and want to discuss it with others, experience our Abbott Elementary-inspired garden installation, hear an original poem, and imagine ways to use the show in your own classroom or professional learning, we would love to have you with us. Come connect, reflect, and be inspired by the possibilities of bringing popular culture into educational spaces!

Come through whether you… 1) came to the convening and want to discuss how to integrate new ideas into your work and hear about others’ experiences teaching or 2) missed the convening but still want to get some of its takeaways and resources.
This will be a space to explore ALL the topics and practices that you’re excited about. We’ll share major takeaways from the convening and have time to discuss how to apply them to our teaching and organizing in small groups. Food will be provided starting at 4:30pm. RSVP link in bio.

Weaving Our Future: Interlacing Our Manifestations with Artist Elizabeth Velazquez
Get your ticket today, and join us in creating a collective weaving. Weaving is an indigenous art form that consists of interlacing long strips of material. The act of weaving transforms many small individual pieces of material into larger, uniform works, such as textiles and baskets. Weaving becomes a metaphor for the possibilities of collective action.
We will collaboratively create a woven textile that records the actions of our hands and reflections on the past, present and future as we move through the day at the NYCoRE convening.
For this activity please bring your presence, creativity and willingness. The weaving process welcomes your thoughts, words, favorite quotes, intentions, affirmations, and manifestations. With our efforts we will weave the past into the present and future, collectively manifesting the resistance necessary for liberation.
Material Ask: If you have recycled fabrics for making strips (clean old clothing, linens, etc.); Yarn and/or long flexible material (can be upcycled packaging plastics) please bring them with you to donate for this collective weaving.

In 2025 with supremacist powers on the rise globally, we educators at NYCoRE continue to seek liberatory power and community control over decisions that affect us. On Nov 21, we will process the results of the unprecedented mayoral election driven by the aspirations and the power of everyday New Yorkers. As we maintain the momentum of the NYC Coalition to Finally End Mayoral Control, we also reach for inspiration to our Chicago colleagues. Jen Johnson, former deputy mayor of education and CTU chief of staff, will share insights from their community-driven campaign to end mayoral control. Coined by disability advocates and adopted by other communities to signal self-determination, we at NYCoRE are inspired by the liberatory wisdom: Nothing about us, without us.
