MSG: Science, history and food with Sarah Lohman and Jonathan Soma! A different delicious topic the We do the talking, you do the drinking!

Sarah Lohman and Jonathan Soma take on a curious food topic and break down the history, science, and stories behind it. Sarah Lohman is the kingpin of Four Pounds Flour, a blog dedicated to uncovering the flavors of the past and using them to inspire contemporary cooking. Jonathan Soma co-founded the Brooklyn Brainery and has an unhealthy interest in how foods work and the chemistry hiding inside. He’s a scientist, but exactly the wrong kind for the job.

A History of Activism through Cookbooks (Online) 03/20/2024

Sarah had a new class! Online, Thursday 21, with Brooklyn Brainery

A History of Activism through Cookbooks (Online) Food has often been a way for activist communities to fundraise, connect, and spread the word about their cause. Sarah & Soma are back on stage Tuesday Caveat! Get your tickets at the link:

Tuesday Oct 24 is BOOK RELEASE DAY!!!! And I’m celebrating with an event at Caveat ! I’ll be joined on stage by my other half (of Masters of Social Gastronomy) Jonathan Soma, amateur food scientist and Director of the Lede Program at the Columbia School of Data Journalism. Then I’ll be in conversation with Tonya Hopkins The Food Griot, and co-founder of the James Hemings Society.

We’ll talk EXTREME HETEROZYGOTES. You’ll hear about North America’s first peanut, believed to have been extinct since 1930, PLUCKED FROM THE VOID and GROWN AGAIN. And we’ll talk about why these foods are going extinct, and how you can help save them.

Books will be available for purchase at the event, and I’ll stick around after the event to sign. It’s a perfect chance to take care of holiday shopping for that in-law you don’t know too well but you know they like food.
