Hi everyone! ⭐️ My name is Elysia Washington, and I’m currently studying abroad in Cape Town, South Africa. I’m a Clothing & Textiles student and Production Management major at FIT, and I’m excited to take over the page today and share some of my experiences abroad!

One of the most rewarding parts of my time here has been seeing the fashion and textile industry from a different perspective. Through my courses, I’ve explored textile development, sewing and garment construction, sustainable fashion practices, and innovative methods of recycling fibers and yarns. It’s been fascinating to learn how sustainability is being incorporated into the industry and to experience hands-on learning in a completely new environment.

Outside of academics, I’ve had the chance to explore so much of what South Africa has to offer. From enjoying amazing local food and experiencing Cape Town’s nightlife, to visiting the penguins at Boulders Beach and traveling to Johannesburg, every week has brought a new adventure. Living here has allowed me to immerse myself in a different culture, meet people from around the world, and gain a broader perspective both personally and professionally.

Studying abroad has challenged me, inspired me, and helped me grow in ways I never expected. I’m so grateful for this opportunity and excited to share more of my journey with you throughout today’s takeover. Follow along to see what life is like as a fashion student studying abroad in South Africa! 🇿🇦🧵✨

Any questions or concerns feel free to dm me ! 🖤

Wow I can’t believe it’s already been almost two months since I arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Time really flew by.

In just one month of school and two months of living here, I’ve experienced so much that’s completely new to me. From exploring the city and meeting amazing people to learning more about the culture, every moment has been exciting and inspiring.

As an FBM student at FIT, I’ve learned a lot about the fashion industry in New York, but studying at RMIT Vietnam has given me a whole new perspective on fashion in Asia. Being in one of the world’s biggest fashion sourcing and manufacturing hubs and getting hands-on experience with fabrics and materials has been such a unique opportunity.

Outside of school, I’ve really fallen in love with the energy here, the food, the scenery, and even just riding through the busy streets on a motorbike. I’m also so inspired by the fashion scene here, how creative and expressive people are, no matter the heat.

This experience has truly been one of a kind, which I’m glad I’ve decided to take the chance and so grateful for what it has given me already. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the semester has in store and bring these memories back with me to FIT.

Bonjour everyone!!
My name is Rhodni and I’m a junior in the AHMP (Art History and Museum Professions) program at FIT. I’m spending my Spring 2026 semester studying abroad in Paris, France.
truly the perfect place for someone like me who studies fashion history, film, and French & Francophone studies.
Having access to world‑renowned museums, historic archives, Paris Fashion Week, and independent cinemas (can’t forget Disneyland Paris) has pushed my understanding of my fields so much further than I imagined. Every day feels like a masterclass in culture. I am overly prepared for French Cinema in the fall :)
My courses this semester connect directly to my long‑term goals of becoming a costume designer in film or a costume archivist.
Living in Paris has already been such a dream. It’s challenging at times, of course, but the personal and academic growth makes every moment worth it. I am so grateful to all my FIT students advisors as well for helping get me here.
If you’re thinking about studying abroad, step out of your comfort zone and do it. There’s nothing like learning about the world by actually being in it.
Feel free to reach out .noni if you want to chat about Paris, AHMP, or studying abroad!

À plus t**d ! Se déconnecter🫶🏿🥐

Hello from Florence! My name is Aliyah and I am a third year interior design student, currently studying abroad at FUA (Florence American University of the Arts).
My courses range from art theory, history & criticism of interiors & literature to experiential learning which directly interacts with the locals. The required classes, along with electives guide me as a designer to explore how, in my case, Italian culture impacts interior design choices.

My semester is divided into a three week course, leading into a two week spring break. As I return from my travels I look forward to completing the eleven week period of my semester. My first three weeks focused on developing concepts for a furniture line that will later be used in my final studio project. My professor, along with the rest of the FUA staff were welcoming and extremely helpful in adjusting to this new environment. I look forward to continuing my academic journey abroad and connecting not only with fellow FUA students beyond those from FIT, but also with members of the local community.

Experiencing independence in a foreign country can feel intimidating, but I don’t regret my decision one bit. This is a once in a lifetime experience that is helping me grow as a designer and person. My time here has taught me so much about my living, social and mental habits that are only evolving from this experience.

Take advantage of traveling to neighboring countries! Visiting different parts of Europe on a student budget makes memories that last a lifetime. I have also enjoyed exploring Florence as its people and art inspire my design philosophy. Although you are leaving your comfort zone don’t let fears hold you back. If you considered studying abroad, take advantage of FIT opportunities. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
