Can art save lives? 🎨💡

At NYU London, this thought-provoking question brought together global leaders in the arts and well-being movement, including Steinhardt faculty and alumni. Supported by SW London Women—which was co-founded by Steinhardt Dean’s Alumni Advisory Board member Shoba Gayathri Nahappan (MA ’06, Visual Arts Administration), this collaboration with NYU Steinhardt’s Jameel Arts & Health Lab was a powerful reminder of the impact of creativity on health and communities. POV: You take a J-term Production and A&R in the Music Industry class and visit the iconic East Iris Studios in Nashville to learn from Grammy-winning producers, engineers, and technicians about studio recording, the Artist + Repertoire process, and how to construct a commercially viable recording.

In this two-week program, students evaluate songs, practice using new recording technology, and learn from Grammy-winning producers about today's approaches to recording music. The program, a partnership with Universal Music Group, the world's largest music rights owner, allows students to meet and spend time with creators and executives across the multiple music business sectors in Nashville, TN.

Our favorite moment of 2024 (and every year!) is celebrating our incredible graduates. 😍🎓💜

This year, the inspiring words of Rachel Griffin-Accurso (MA ’16)—beloved as “Ms. Rachel”—echoed through Radio City Music Hall, reminding our graduates to dream big and lead with kindness. Her message filled the room with hope and joy as students turned their tassels and stepped into their futures.

From student spotlights to the energy of graduation day, the Class of 2024 truly made this year unforgettable. Congratulations to all our grads! 🎉

We’re continuing our 2024 recap by celebrating three standout events that brought our Steinhardt community together in big ways. ⏳

🌟This spring, we explored the fascinating relationship between technology and society with “Computer Pasts/Computer Futures.” Led by Laine Nooney and joined by Charlton McIlwain, Joanne McNeil, Cory Doctorow, and Malcolm Harris, the event unpacked long-held assumptions about technology today. Talk about tech inspiration! 💻✨

💞: As part of UNGA Healing Arts Week, the Art and Science of Social Connection symposium brought creativity and connection into the spotlight. Featuring voices like Renée Fleming, National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chair Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson, and Dr. Jeremy Nobel, founder of Project Unlonely, the event reminded us how art can foster belonging and transform well-being. 🎶🩰🧠

💜 At the inaugural Dorothy Height Luncheon, we celebrated one of our most iconic alum, Dorothy Irene Height (BA ‘33, MA ‘35, HON ‘75), and her incredible impact on social justice. With inspiring remarks from Nija Leocadio, Jimyce Johnston, Denise Glaudé, and Prof. Lauren Mims, we honored her legacy alongside amazing women continuing her mission today.

These moments brought inspiration, innovation, and a whole lot of Steinhardt pride. Here’s to 2024 and all the connections we’ve built together! 🥂
