We sadly mourn the passing of Mike Sweetney (C’03), fellow Hoya, former New York Knick, Georgetown University Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, and friend of the Georgetown Club of Metro New York.

Mike was a beloved member of the Hoya community and a welcome presence at our men’s basketball game watches here in New York. His warmth, generosity and Hoya spirit made those gatherings all the more special.

We will miss Mike greatly and are grateful for the memories he shared with our New York Hoya community.

Our sincerest condolences go to his wife, India, his family, friends, and all who loved him.

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation experienced the worst terrorist attack in its history. On September 11, 2001, we lost 2,977 lives at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, PA; lives whose stories deserve to be remembered as more than statistics of tragedy.

We also honor the extraordinary bravery of the first responders - the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and everyday heroes who ran toward danger to save others, many giving their own lives in the process.

Today, on this 25th anniversary, we pause to remember each individual life lost and to reflect on the resilience, unity, and service that rose from that day.

The Georgetown Club of Metro New York spent a lovely morning at the Cornell Club of New York assembling dental kits and heartfelt greeting cards for pediatric cleft lip and palate patients in partnership with Smile Train for our annual Hoyas Give Baxa community service event.

Smile Train is a global nonprofit that provides life-changing cleft surgery and comprehensive care to children in need around the world.

Thank you to all our Hoyas and friends for participating, and we hope to see you next year for Hoyas Give Baxa 2027! 💙🩶
