Across both coasts, we celebrated Passover in community, bringing Jews of Color together across the country for connection, learning, and joy.

In L.A., Jews of Color in their 20s and 30s gathered for Ammud programming in partnership with NuRoots' Collective Escape, a city wide Passover festival. Ammud’s Rabbinic Intern, Rebeca, guided participants through learning different traditions of charoset and how it can connect to our spiritual experiences.

In D.C., families gathered for our JOC Family Passover Celebration in partnership with the Edlavitch DCJCC, enjoying Passover crafts, activities, and a shared dinner with Rabbi Kelly.

On Purim, we put on costumes and let a little silliness into the sanctuary. There’s also a tradition of teaching absurdist Torah—playful interpretations in the style of classical rabbinic commentary.

But what if play isn’t just comic relief? What if it’s a doorway?
Join us this Purim to explore Torah that may sound silly at first—and discover the serious truths about life, faith, and the Holy One that might be hiding underneath.

Come ready to laugh, to think, and to be surprised.

JOCs and Allies, join us on Sunday, March 1st at 7:30pm ET on Zoom!

About Us

Ammud provides Jewish education for Jews of Color (JOCs) by Jews of Color. We exist to empower Jewish people of color who oftentimes find themselves alienated or sidelined by racism in majority-white Jewish institutions. Ammud allows Jewish people of color to access the Jewish education needed to be empowered members and leaders of the broader Jewish community, creating space to celebrate marginalized customs and traditions, uncover lost histories, and (re)build culture. Our classes are accessible anywhere by way of online participation. Ammud’s 2020-2021 program year will begin October 19th, 2020 with the overarching theme “Chaber-חבר: Connection, Relationship, and Community.”
