I am an experienced, highly qualified tutor who specializes in SAT, ACT, and academic tutoring in English, Writing, Law, and History/Civics. I hold an undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and a law degree from Columbia Law School. I have been tutoring for over 15 years--I do it because I enjoy it and (if I say so myself) I am quite good at it.

If you're using a tutoring center or online service, you are probably being charged more to get less. Those businesses tend to rely on students who lack experience and subject matter mastery. Centers will put students in groups, which often results in lots of time spent doing practice without guidance, only to receive cursory explanations before the tutor moves on to the next student. Services that set you up with one-on-one tutoring take a huge cut, reducing compensation to the tutors (and, therefore, the appeal of the work to well-qualified educators) while also increasing your costs. Finally, many of these centers and services require you to commit large sums by pre-buying minimum numbers of sessions.

I have worked with students from elementary through law school, as well as adult learners. I am available both online and in-person. My rates are negotiable and will reflect the difficulty of the material and any prep time required. I may charge more for in-person sessions that require travel time.

Students should expect to purchase/provide their own materials--the value I bring is in teaching effective strategies for test-taking and writing, as well as clear, in-depth explanations of concepts.
