BronxWrites, a year-long poetry slam residency program in collaboration with GlobalWrites.

BronxWrites, a year-long poetry slam residency program in collaboration with GlobalWrites, uses standards-based literacy methods and curriculum to teach students how to write and perform original poetry. A biannual, school-to-school poetry slam competition is facilitated through videoconferencing technology, engaging hundreds of students in a series of compelling events that culminate in an Open Mic celebration at Lehman College.

Bronx Writes Open Mic - Feb. 15th 02/15/2013

Bronx poets in the Bronx celebrate their poetry! We had Disney 365 film our event and celebrate Caroline Kennedy, a longtime DreamYard supporter, and her new book of poems: Poems to Learn by Heart. Caroline has taught in our after-school poetry project and at DY Prep. Disney star Laura Marano and Caroline Kennedy were both there to celebrate with the students.

Teen Writing Contest running during the month of April! Teens can submit entries in poetry and prose categories. We'll select three winners from each category as well as honorable mentions. Participants will be invited to a reception on June 11th where winners will read their submissions and a panel of writers, poets and editors will share their advice and experiences.
