As we start planning for Global Water Dances in June, and as the threats to water sovereignty are in tension with the crying need for water access, particularly where drought has taken hold, we need to act. Acting in concert, finding common ground, sharing knowledge and skills: these matter in the coming challenges. All of it lends fodder to the concept and practices of movement choir. Join the conversation, happening on global and local levels. You are needed.

Today’s conversations about movement choirs were brilliant and this is just a start.
If you missed it, there will be more.

Hello all,
I wanted to set up the Movement Choir conversations for several reasons:
1. There is a fairly narrow history out there about the choirs; whereas there are many forms and applications of the basic ideas. I want to share my explorations and applications and to have those of you on similar pathways share as well.
2. I have been struck when teaching the Laban history about patterns in northern hemisphere human societies that embrace principles of progressive and communal activities only to have such taken down by violence and injustice. (But are they taken down?)
3. I am seeing a swing toward understanding the loss of human interaction and co-creation in the post-COVID world and a refocusing on local efforts to generate peace and compassion.
4. I think we can help.
There are two opportunities to join this initiative:
Saturday night/Sunday morning: this one is for Asia, Australia, NZ, and west coast North America. I am in tge Atlantic time zone, which is 1 hour later than NY/Eastern time and I am leading the conversation starting at 9 pm my time. 8 pm Eastern. My own reckonings are as follows: when it is 9 PM at my house, it is Sunday, December 1 - 9 AM in Beijing, 10 AM in Seoul, 12 PM in Sydney, 2 PM in New Zealand.
The registration is here: https://lbms-community.labaninstitute.org/c/events/community-harmony
(If the requested $5 is a problem or you hit glitches, please email me: [email protected])
Then, the following Saturday, December 7, is a session for the eastern/midwest US and Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe and western Asia: this is happening at 11 AM my time, which is 10 AM Eastern, 3 PM UK+, 4 PM CES, etc.
Register here: https://lbms-community.labaninstitute.org/c/events/community-harmony-2
(same as above, email me if glitches etc.)
We may record the presentation and whole group discussions, but the two 30-minute breakout sessions will not be recorded. Her are the topics for the breakout sessions:
Diplomacy
Community Building
Peacemaking
Cross-Cultural Movement
Classroom Choirs
Dance Creation
Issues-Based Movement Choirs
You do have to register, and that has proven challenging for some, so please let me know; don't give up!
(If you registered for the wrong session—I know some registered for Nov. 30 thinking it started at 8 AM Eastern, instead of 8 PM Eastern—cancel your registration and reregister for the December 7 session. Or just stay up late with me!)

Calling all scholars! Submissions are open for the 2025 Edition of our peer-reviewed annual journal, the Journal of Laban Bartenieff Movement Studies (JLBMS).
Technology/technologies, now an ever present part of the environment in which we live, has had a revolutionary impact on the ways we exist and act in the world. As contemporary practitioners of LBMS, we must respond by evolving our practices and applications of LBMS theories. This Special Issue of JLBMS calls on practitioners to consider how technology and technologies have been, and are, impacting us.

Join us for a virtual, synchronous course with Carol-Lynne Moore titled, Decoding Laban's "Choreutics".
Choreutics, more than any of Rudolf Laban’s other writings, is an integrative book. It addresses not only Space, but also Body, Effort, and Shape. Because Laban’s explanations and intuitive leaps may not be obvious, reading and decoding Choreutics is more rewarding when done with others.
This summer, across six weeks beginning on May 31, participants will study and discuss the Preface, Introduction, and first 12 chapters of Choreutics under the experienced guidance of Laban scholar, Dr. Carol-Lynne Moore.
📅 Course Period: May 31 - July 13, 2024
📍 Where: Online via LBMS Community
💰 Cost: $349 for early-bird registrations (Enter code EARLYBIRD at checkout), and then $399* starting from May 17th.
*10% discount is available for LIMS members. See Enhanced Member Benefits page on the LBMS Community.
